New Firmware 31.0.017 Alarm Snooze

24 replies · 10,275 views · Started 23 January 2009

hi, I just stumbled upon this forum because since the upgrade to 31.0.017 I have another strange issue with the alarm clock:
Before going to bed I regularly set the alarm to e.g.7:45am and switch off the phone.
Since the update, the alarm clock sounds at the correct time, but when i pres snooze the alarm stays off forever, or more exactly until i manually turn on the phone when i finally get up (therefore mostly too late in recent days 😞 )
When the phone has started, the alarm clock immediately reappears and can be snoozed for 5 minutes on and on...
Does anybody else have this problem?
greetings,gromit42

just tested mine, alarm came on i pressed snooze and it turned off and then came back on 5 mins later. Ive got V31 too the latest.

Not sure why yours is doing it.

hi liam,
previous version was V30something, the last available since December.
I'll try a few things on the weekend...
thanks, gromit42

I have exactly the same issue with snooze since the update...can you confirm what you did to fix this?

Thanks

Using the Nokia Alarm, New Alarm and set it to repeat workdays.

Think i might have found the issue tho0ugh, I had this alarm set before the update, and afterwards it didnt work. I deleted it and reset a new alarm and tested and it seemed to work....

Seems to be the case that you just need to recreate the alarm....I'll see how it goes tomorrow morning!!!

OK, so the same issue occurred today. It works when i set an alarm, turn the phone off and press snooze. However, once I set an alarm and set it to repeat workdays, the snooze function does not work. Can anyone confirm if they have the same issue?

I have just set mine using a repeating alarm for workdays. I set it for 10 mins in advance so I could test it. Turned the phone off and it came on. I pressed snooze and it turned off and did indeed come back on after 5 minutes.

So reading that is mine different to yours?

Hmm thats the way it should work.

I'll try it now to set an alarm for a few minutes time and see what happens.

i suppose the only thing to confirm is that you have workdays set as Mon - Fri?

i work shifts so have set work days for all through the week.

Ill re test now.

I have just re tested for you. Set my workdays to Mon - Fri. Set an alarm for 10 mins in advance. Turned phone off. It came back on i presse snooze and again after 5 minutes it came back on with no problems..?

Liam

I did the same test and it worked ???????????

It appears my alarm doesn't like morning :con? :con?

I've set it for tomorrow morning again. I will set another test now for an hour in advance, see if it works. Other than that...I'm confused 😞

OK strangely this wont work in the morning??? If i leave the phone charging, it works, if I set an orfdinary alarm without repeat, it works, but if I have it repeat workdays and on battery power (turned off) it doesnt work.

It will work if I set it for 10mins in advance, 40 mins in advance etc...but when i set it for 7.15am, it doesnt work????!!!?/

do you have any psiloc apps installed? When i did an upgrade about a year ago one of the nasty extras DRM that p. added would interfere with the alarm bootup process. They fixed the prob eventually but i was only running a demo version. Use the forum search for more info.

I also suffer from this bug.
I have a N95-1, and I updated my firmware yesterdat from FW30 to FW31.0.017. I enabled a 'fast alarm' (so not reoccuring). The next morning, after the first snooze, the phone stayed off.
The circumstances:
- no power connected
- all clock settings are default
- the phone language is dutch
- the alarm was set the day before

After I switched on the phone, the alarm went off.

So, I set again an alarm, but now the snooze works... I really do not have a clue when it works or not. Hopefully, we can track the origin of this bug so we can circumvent it.

As per my last message, have you done a full phone reset? Did you do a restore of a backup after the upgrade? I found, as I said before, that some software launches when the phone comes out of "off" mode for the alarm/snooze, including that DRM junk that Psiloc apps add along with them. When I did a restore the last f/w upgrade, it re-installed the DRM and the alarm was misbehaving. I did a full phone reset back to factory default, and the alarm was working fine. Then I restored from a backup, and it started playing up again. So then I removed the software I had installed, app by app from the application manager until I tracked down the problem. It took forever to keep removing an app or two at a time (including a lot of the "hidden" ones like the DRM junk) and then shutdown to test the alarm, and I guess things like this are why it is often said "don't do a restore of your settings after a firmware upgrade". I didn't want to listen, and it did take many days of mucking about to finally get the phone working 100%. Psiloc have since brought out new releases of most of their apps/tools to overcome this issue, but if you have an old version of something installed, it pays to check what is listed in the application manager and start ditching what you don't use to track down the prob.

I did not do a full phone reset (because I have a lot of apps installed) and I do not have Psiloc software installed. However, this behaviour only happened once for me, so maybe some software did reinstall itself succesfully. I will try that if this behaviour reoccurs.

*any* psiloc tools whatsoever? They made a heap of different utils/apps/etc over the years that you may have tried once? The DRM doesn't get removed when you un-install the tool/app too. Simply look in your application manager to see what is lurking in there.
If you have the time, try to do a backup, a full phone reset, and before doing a restore, see if the alarm/snooze works fine. If so, then it is something incompatible in one of the bits of software you have installed that is mucking things up. You can then do a restore, and start removing stuff one by one until you track it down.

I really do not have Psiloc installed and never have (the phone has been repaired and came back from Nokia only a month ago, so I know dor sure I did not install Psiloc apps).

As I cannot make the bug reappear, I'll wait until this bug will strike again. If so, I will indeed format my phone. However, until then, I hope it was just the first time I used the snooze after a firmware update and thus some settings had to settle/apply/install etc and I hope the bug is gone now.

i actually did a full reset and restored...i might try to reset and test before restoring my old settings.

To recreate, (for me anyway) set the alarm for following morning, have it to repeat workdays, and then turn off phone at night and leave disconnected from mains.

I did a full reset and restored nothing, tried it and its the same problem. It appears it only happens if the alarm is set for a few hours in advance! Strange issue, but appears many people over on Nokia discussion have the same issue and Nokia developers are apparently aware of it!
