I had a nice blue 5800 delivered by Nokia on the 22nd Feb.
It had v10 firmware and no iplayer
I was frustrated that nokia's software updater did not update to v11, so I tried going to:
settings->phone->phone mgmt->device updates
options->check for updates
and hey presto! it downloaded the v11 firmware over the air and updated the phone.
so just a tip that you can do this and it works. Make sure the battries are full though 😊
still can't find iplayer
I still can't update mine, even through the above method. Keeps saying I have the lastest version - 10.0.010
I've noticed under one of the options where the device update is, something about server profiles. Would this affect it because I don't seem to have a profile on there.
Any ideas?
I have no server profiles either
My language set is 01 and my type is RM-356
the new firmware was 11.0.008.blue.01
Interestingly it kept my contacts and my settings after the upgrade. However it lost the installed programs.
tip: did you have a SIM card in (which network?) and was the phone the "General" profile ?

CaptNSpauling, what colour is your phone ?
I have a Red and I haven't been able to update though NSU or OTA yet either.
Model code 0575581
Software Version V10.0.010
Custom Version 10.010.217.01
I've tried it both when I've been on General, and just now on Silent (I'm at work)
I've tried it with my current SIM card in, which is Vodafone. Also tried my partners o2 SIM card in it. No luck 😞
I just got mine, and updated over the air.
CapnSpaulding & bartmanekul what model code and colour are your phones ?
Product code is - 0575581
Red version 5800 from the UK Nokia online site.
Language set - 01
Software version V 10.0.010
Custom version 10.0.010.217.01
Type - RM-356
I have the red 5800, product number - 0575581
Same as me and I can't update
Perhaps after spending so long sitting next to Russia, nokia has something against the colour Red ?
Never mind, Nokia have changed their update site. Now says the latest firmware for my code is v.10.
They must have found a flaw in v.11 to have pulled it?
I read somewhere lots of rumours about this.
1. Each nokia has a unique number. Not sure if it uses IMEI or something else, but the update database checks your unique number or entitlements before it updates. Sometimes nokia takes time to update the upgrade database fully, especially when it has sold over 1m of these babies!
2. It is effected by the provider of the SIM card, as some providers say no updates at all over nokia update.
Personally I think this is all unlikely. I think all the system looks for is the model ID, in my case, RM-356. As i see plenty of people going to default firmware or different languages by just changing their model number.
It is possible that due to the high demand (over 1m sold to date), they are simply bifarcating the server load by some random variable everyday (maybased on region or IMEI, etc.). As its probably more important that only a limited number of people get the update, but it does it properly.
I would test morning and night every day for the next few days.
Also tell us your product number, as you might have a regional version not added to the update database yet.
rgds
i also heard the v12 is out shortly. whats your model number (RM number) ?
Out of curiosity Colonel, what network's SIM did you use ?
As for slowing down the hit on their servers. V11 has been out now for almost two weeks, most people outside the UK who want to upgrade will have done so already AND in the UK the phone is only offically available from Nokia online and direct from a couple of nokia shops.
If the servers can't handle the load that will generate they have a serious problem.

I wouldn't have thought so. seems more likely to me that they've realised that they aren't releasing the v11 firmware to these product codes yet for whatever reason and are just making sure that the Online checker and NSU etc are reporting the same result. Not that the entire firmware release has been pulled.
I think we still need an explaination from Nokia what the delay is.
Damn I have 3, Vodafone, T-mobile and Orange sims to test with but not O2 😊

What you're talking about here is the phone's PRODUCT CODE (or SPN to use phone speak) - this is the 7 digit code (such as 0575581) which indicates which region (country) and network your phone was originally configured for.
It is *THIS* code that Nokia's Software Update program reads to decide whether there is an update available for your phone. It is also through this method that Nokia can make different firmwares available for different networks and countries.

It's written on the back of your phone under the battery.

Take your battery out and it will be on the sticker underneath 😊

I think O2 will give you a free PAYG chip if you speak to them nicely 😊
but I really don't think this effects the update

No, not at all. As said before, the update is dependent on the code hardwired into your phone.

Maybe you can take card out and copy contents to your computer and then format card in phone, then copy contents from the computer to card? I did this when I bought a 16Gb card and wanted to copy the contents from the 8Gb card I had ... formatting the 16Gb in the phone first to check it was happy!!!
I never set passwords for my card or phone because I know (have read it here and inother places) the chaos it can cause with firmware updates!!!

Hi Robmiek - I will try your suggestions. Thanks a million . . . . GOD Bless.
you can update to a custom version... mine works like a charm... if you're interested, i can send you the links to the custom firmware and the tools needed for the installation of the latter
the JAF emulator which you need for installing the custom anna 7.9 on your Nokia 5800. the procedure is really simple, and if you want, i will upload a video on youtube on how to do it. you will need both of these files i have provided in the links below:
