Another day, still no Firmware update

Bit of idle speculation: could it be that the version without v11 firmware update is the version that is being sold through 3rd part stores rather than through Nokia stores.
3rd party stores aren't supposed to be selling 5800 till this coming Friday and for that reason they won't be releasing the v11 firmware till then (forgetting that Nokia themselves have already sold some of these phone)

That's all a complete guess but barring an explaination from someone in the know, guesses are what I'm stuck with.

I still dont understand why the blue one has V11 available, and the red doesn't. Apart from product codes, surely theres no hardware difference?

I wouldn't have thought there would be any differences.

If there isn't a difference my guess is that it's just an oversight by Nokia but you can see from their response above that it's difficult to get them to acknowlege it.

The theme is different - I'm guessing this is some feeble excuse for blue having an update when red doesn't.

The fact that different colour handsets get different product codes and software is plain stupid though!

Still no damn v11 firmware a week after the phone arrived and with the handset now on general release.

Only things that's changes is that the Nokia Software Utility no longer give me the option to reinstall v10 firmware.
And http://europe.nokia.com/A4305060 now reports that "Sorry, there is no software currently available for that product code via the Nokia Software Update tool. " rather than listing the v10 firmware as teh most recent.

I'm starting to think sending the phone back then buying a new one from CPW is the way to go.

Same thing with mine on the Nokia site.

I've just spoken to Nokia Advanced Technical Support on the phone and they've said that the problem appears to be that Nokia R&D haven't added the correct entries to the Firmware information database covering this model.

He's going to try prodding R&D into life and get back to me but that won't be till Monday.

Quite why Nokia Support couldn't do this back when I first contacted them on Monday is left as an exercise for the reader.

Time for a beer I think...

i guess the updates roster just doesn't happen as quickly as we would like. You should get it eventually. they possibly stage it to prevent server overload? if half a million all tried on the same day it would be chaos.

Just got a new red 5800 from Carphone Warehouse which already had firmware v11 already on it - but had the same product code as my previous one stuck on v10. Also came with iPlayer as it should unlike the one I received from Nokia. All this for 40 less than I also paid Nokia 😊😊:icon14:

Awaiting my promised call back from Nokia Advanced Technical Support.

If Nokia can get the firmware update out by Wednesday then fine, otherwise this phones going back to Nokia on the grounds they are refusing to support it and I'll get one from CPW.

Good luck on that one.

However, if you have a solid handset, I'd be tempted to keep it.

It looks like the 5800 have a design flaw in the casing. The top right hand corner doesn't have any clips to hold it together, and a number of people are reporting its got gaps which are getting bigger.

Spotted that thread on N95Users.
I have a little bit of play on either side but nothing I'm worried about.

Anyway I did get a call back from Tech Support but they didn't have any real information.
The 0575581 will be getting the updated through NSU soon but they can't be any more specific than that.
They did confirm, as suspected that the firmware did change through the production run. The early ones got v10 and the later ones got v11.

I'm starting to see the Certificate Expired error increasingly when trying to install software and this is supposedly fixed in v11, so initially I went to CPW to get a new one but they wouldn't let one got for less than 230 so I followed Tech Supports only practical suggestion which was that Nokia Service Centres should be able to update the firmware now and booked my phone in for a flashing.

It should be back with me on Wednesday so I'll have to see what they've done to it.

Till then I'm stuck back on my Samsung Omnia. Bleugh :frown:

Head over to Mobile Review to see the fate of V11 seems from what I have read it has been withdrawn due to issues. anyway V12 will be here soon apparently.

YAY !

After two days in the tender care of my local Nokia Service Centre my 5800 is returned to me wiped but with the v11 firmware !

Just in time for v12 to be released perhaps but in the meantime hopefully this should fix the Expired Certificate errors I was getting.
