Browser problems. . . my head is wrecked..

Just moved onto the I8510 from an N95 8gb and pretty happy with one exception.

The S60 web browser insists on identifying itself as mobile device, which is preventing me from accessing 2 financial websites I use throughout the day.

Ive been looking at this issue from 2 angles, a software hack or a different browser.

On the user-agent string I got an unsigned app to change to user agent string to Firefox & Windows XP.
I then spent an enjoyable 4/5 days trying to get the app signed through variety of self-signing apps and the long-winded SymbainSigned process, only to find out that I cant self-sign apps without stumping up 200 for a Publisher ID.

I then changed tack to try out a few different browsers to find they all had the same issue with the user-agent.
I downloaded the Opera Mini .jar file (v4.1 for N95 8g) and it wouldnt install either via PC Studio or the phone stating that the file format wasnt supported by the phone installer ??
The installer handles standard .sis files quite happily so it just doesnt seem to like .jar Java equivalent.

Ive updated the firmware (I8510XXHJ3 07/10/2008 & I8510L08XEUEJI 01/10/2008), and beyond than the phone is pretty clean with a few Symbian utilities & Y-Browser installed.

Can anyone help with either signing the user agent .sis or suggest a resolution to the .jar install problem?

Hi

I use Opera Mini on my i8510 all the time - it's fantastic and so much quicker than the built in browser.

To install the jar file - all you need to do is save it to your phones memory somewhere. Then use Office/File Mgr to locate it and then click Open.

Bingo!

Good luck.....

Try downloading opera mini v.4.2, this works fine on my i8510. I'm not sure which financial sites you are trying, but I find most sites work great, including online banking etc.

Try the N95 version it should work fine (can't remember which version I downloaded!).

If you really get stuck PM me and I'll send you a copy of the version I have installed.

Good luck !
