The benefit of T9Nav or SkeyQuiKey for me is not getting access to applications, but quick access to contacts. calendar items, email messages, and notes.
I do use it for accessing applications, but I agree that it's great just for contacts - especially with SkyeQuiKey's one-button option to send a Text message to a contact once selected. For me, that's by far the quickest way to send a text message.
I sometimes get pleasantly surprised when a web page that I've bookmarked for a (business) contact pops up in the list of matches too. I usually forget to try to find web pages that way deliberately 😉.
I also prefer things like Handy Safe (just type in 723 or 7233) NOT to be in plain view as a shortcut on the standby screen.
