I want to buy bluetooth device to sync and connect to internet via bluetooth (not GPRS). Please share with us which bluetooth device that works and that does not works

- Anycom bluetooth CF on win xp does not work

Well Im using the "Com One MC310 Platinium" PC Card in my laptop (Note this is the product recommended by Sony for use with there Vaio series), it works perfectly I havent needed to use the USB lead yet, it even communicated with my phone when my phone was upstairs and I was downstairs!
Does all you required plus allows me to use the phone as a modem for the laptop.

I have just tested the Widcomm Bluetake USB Dongle, works perfectly with this devise sync and file transfer, I didnt test the dialup modem, but the functionality is there so I doubt there would be any problems using the phone as a modem. I have two of these USB dongles that I no longer use (used to use for networking my pcs and laptop, but I upgraded to a wireless LAN with a wireless router) if anyone is interested in buying one or both of these from me, drop me a mail [email protected] 30 each plus postage (they retail at 102.22 for the pair just checked I paid considerably more), Im not after much for them, bear in mind I live in England.

i got one of them microsoft bluetooth mice. i hoped the usb adapter would work for my p800 (sync...) as well but it doesn't. somehow. anybody with any idea for new drivers or a setup i didn't di yet....

it's microsoft i know but i still hope it would work anyway. bluetooth is a standard after all.... 😉

Just to clarify things a little: Do you want to connect your P800 to the Internet via PC equipped with BT adapter (and an Internet connection), or do you want to connect your PC to the Internet via P800? I suppose pretty much every BT dongle implements dial-up profile, so you can use P800 as a modem. P800 doesn't implement LAN profile, so you can not use your PC or BT Access point as a gateway to the Internet.

I have a SCM 'ZIO' USB dongle at home, and it's working fine. I have a TDK dongle and PCI card at work and I haven't seen any difference so far except in the price tag. I've heard TDK card is one of the best, but it's also pretty expensive.

I doubt your mouse supports any profiles you need to connect your P800 to the PC (just some "mouse" or point-to-point profile).

I beleive most bluetooth adapter for pc works for dial-up (DUN is most basic profile supported), what i want to know is all DUN and Sync. Coz from my experiance my Anycom CF Bluetooth is capable of DUN, Post File, but unable to sync (they say it's some thing to do with apps called mrouter or some thing that DID NOT COMPATIBLE with the bluetooth driver)... so i want to replace my Anycom with some thing that support DUN, Post file and sync.

There's a sync profile in BT, but P800 uses serial port profile (or com port or whatever the profile is called) to create a virtual comport through BT connection. Check if your dongle supports serial port profile. Pair the P800 with PC and, search the P800 for supported profiles. You should see a "Serial port" profile or something like that. Double click on it, and the port should be opened. Click properties and see what Com port is being used. Open the mrouter and check that port. You should now get your P800 synced via BT.

Oh, and update your drivers if you are using some old version.
I use the D-Link Bluetooth dongle.

Very nice, very reliable, extremely effective. Only US$49.95
Can you tell me what version of the D-Link software you're using?

I've got 1.2.2.15 and it will discover and pair with the phone but whenever I try to connect the Bluetooth serial port it tells me the phone regected the connection...

It's weird cuz I had no trouble at all with my Socket Bluetooth CF card !

Why would Sony reccomend to use this dongle, while they have their own Bluetooth Dongle?

there is a microsoft bluetooth dongle with the mouse and so far it is capable to 'see' the p800 but only for dialup modem services.... i understand i have to use a 'serial port' to sync the p800 but where do i activate a virtual serialport for the BT device?

Ive been a follower of Bluetooth for a couple of years now, to say everything that was promised, such as it will have worry free compatibility, universal plug and play throughout the product range, I think a lot of people were thinking Bluetooth would be something which is compatible with pretty much all other Bluetooth devices. I know we are still in Bluetooths early years, but quite the opposite seems to have happened so far. I own 6 Bluetooth devices and Ive spent many a day configuring and reconfiguring devices in some case with no success. Bluetooth is great when you get it functioning correctly, but if things dont reach a standard soon I can see it being brushed under the carpet and other wireless technology prevailing.

It's really annoying that you have to spend hours fiddling with it before stuff will work... and sometimes it just wont work until you try a different manufactures device... :x

the other thing that annoys me is the user intervention required ... all this having to start a serial connection or gsm modem connection everytime you want to use it.

I'd like it if you could walk into range with your phone and your desktop (who you have previously paired with and trusted) will automatically accept the connection and start the sync software... and then when you walk out of range the desktop will just drop the connection...
