E71 WiFi power usage

I've noticed a marked improvement in wifi in battery life using my e71 with some wifi access points in comparison to previous generation phones (e61i). I leave my e71 connected to sip voip all day and it doesn't seem to affect the battery life at all, previously the e61i would get a few hours and be dead. I should stress that i'm not saying that a connection uses less power than previously when transmitting data, just that it exhibits far lower standby power usage. I have noticed that this increase in battery life depends on which type of access point i connect to. At home I have a http://www.netgear.co.uk/wireless_firewall_router_wgr614.php, but in work they have a custom draft-n box from free.fr which results in far worse battery life. Both use wpa2. My phone has the original 100.07.76 firmware.

I'm wondering:
- Has anyone else noticed this?
- Which phones apart from the e71 exhibit this, presumably all newer models.
- Which access points exhibit this, or is there any specific feature of an access point that enables this.
- Has anyone else commented on this or found any more details?
