All,

incase you dont know the 64Mb Duo is in stock at Expansys. And it isnt a Magicgate - 70.50

Z.

I just recieved my 64Mb stick from Expansys and it IS a MagicGate ...

Works well though...

For those who might be interested, i emailed Brando lastnight, and got the reply

64mb Duo's in stock this saturday ($73 shipped to UK)[
128mb duo in stock april ($123 shipped to UK)

So if you can wait until the end of next week to get one, (my screen protector took 5days to get here) then they are a bargain (=approx 45, assuming you don't get hit with customs etc - and even if you do, probably still cheaper.)

Just got mine as well. However, as it's a MagicGate, where did they get the picture from that's on their website? Don't suppose they "doctored" a picture of a 16MB stick so that they'd have something to show do you?

I ordered the 64MB memory stick duo yesterday February 25th. There were 50 in stock. Shortly after placing my order I received an
e-mail requesting a copy of my credit card and ID
which I duly provided. Checking the order status
later on there was the message "Awaiting CC Auth
Explanation: Your credit card is awaiting
authorisation from your bank. Some international banks
can take two days to provide a response. If you are
concerned we have not received a response yet, please
contact us."
I called and spoke with one of their customer
representatives who said the same as above except that
all memory stick duo had now been sold out and were on
backorder. This is all within 24 hours.
I buy everything from clothes, to computers, gadgets
and toys online. I buy from Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk,
Micronpc.com, landsend.com, LLBean.com, Outpost.com...
The list goes on and on. Every time I make an online
purchase I get instant confirmation and authorization
and my order ships virtually immediately provided it's
not back-ordered.
Why eXpansys can't do the same I do not know. Theirs is obviously an archaic system and the customer service reps are under lots of pressure. I wasted time and money (faxing and phoning, long distance) on a company that deals in high-tech stuff yet can't implement a decent online sales system.

Don't worry about it. It's nothing personal and nothing to do with expansys. The Banks pick transactions at random to perform security checks on. It's cheaper for them than to check every single payment made world wide each day!

It's even worse when they pick you when you're at the supermarket check-out with loads of people queued up behind you!

I've found the Magic Gate Duo 64Mb here, http://www.p800er.com/product.asp?id=8 at about 44. That's almost 40% off Expansys prices!

Plus something like 2.5% import duty, plus 17.5% VAT + 10 charge from the courier for paying these for you up front... plus the fact I saw it one day and had it in my hands the next, plus I've ordered from expansys before and know that my money isn't going to disappear in a puff of smoke and international money laundering...

really people, speaking as an old fart who still has a reciept (for nostagia) for a 4mb RAM stick that cost something like 150 quid, expansys are not "ripping you off" ... they're making a profit on a desirable item... you only have to look how less than 24 hours after appearing on the expansys website all 50 sticks had been sold... and still people were clamouring to order them...

it's simple supply and demand... and at the moment supply is low and demand is pretty high... personally I'd rather order from a company i know is only a 20 minute drive away and pay a little extra (once you factor in all the costs I've outlined above it is only a little extra) rather than deal with joe bloggs sitting in a flat 6 thousand miles away who is flogging these as a hobby...

ok, so they're a little pricey, but they usually get stuff first and expansys have always dealt fairly with me they've held their hands up, apologised and offered discounted goods to pacify me in the past...

If you've noticed on P800er.com website, it's managed by the people at domL. domL is a highly reputable company this part of the world and have been around for many years dealing mainly with PDA stuff. They're definitely not some "joe bloggs sitting in a flat 6 thousand miles away who is flogging these as a hobby..." In fact, they're pretty much like the Expansys in Asia.

Or you could look at it as "Gee, aren't Expansys great, they're checking my details properly to ensure I'm not just some snot nosed kid with a stolen credit card" ... i think it's good that they want to check who you are... I know I always get pissed off when they guy in the gas station swipes my visa card, ignores my signature and passes me the reciept... all without even looking at me (but that's another rant) ...

FYI: www.doml.com.sg will have the 128mb MS DUO in stock on the 22nd of March as Sony will release them in Japan on the 21st of March. They have confirmed the expected arrival date with me on several occasions.

They currently have a limited stock of 64mb MS DUOs. They offer great service by the way.
