I see Google have released a major update for Google Maps which includes the new Latitude friend locator functionality (optional of course!) : http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2009/02/locate-your-friends-in-real-time-with.html
So I tried installing it from google.com/latitude, but it would install and gave the error message something like 'Cannot install Google Maps is built-in'.
So am I stuck waiting for an update from Samsung via Pc Studio? Or is there some way I can get around this?
Happened to me too and I didnt find a way around it... i guess everything that came prenstalled at the ROM is protected from deleting, updating,... it sucks a little, not too much though.
no its not the end of the world... but this pre-installed apps is getting more annoying. No updates seem to be coming from Samsung via PC Studio 😞 I now have 2 apps that I want to update, and one is because it needs a bug fix...

Can you elaborate on "hack the phone"?
I think what bujar1 is talking about is 'HelloOX'. Google it.

How did you install Nokia Maps?
I have tried signing a certificate-free version even, but even that says "install base package first"
Where are you getting your Nokia Maps from? Are you using the Nokia Maps Updater?
Micky! wrote:Where are you getting your Nokia Maps from? Are you using the Nokia Maps Updater?
tried the unsigned files from dotsis forums and the official nokia site
What? What you doing trying to install any files that need signing in the first place for Nokia Maps??
Dotsis is full of cracked, and warez, be careful my friend.
Have you downloaded, and installed Nokia Maps Updater on your PC?
EDIT - Ignore my comments above, i thought you were talking about a Nokia handset, sorry.

yup, thats the problem, official installer wont work because nokia block installation on non-nokia handsets. bit silly really cause if theyd let me install it theyd be making money on my subscription

Didnt think that this would work but I can confirm it works perfectly.
Thanks
How did you get Nokia Maps running??
Hi, could someone please provide a working download link? Thank you!
Hi all, I managed to get it working by doing the following:
1. Download GoogleMaps.sisx, either from forums, or using your mobile phone and then transferring the file to the computer.
2. Download SISContents from http://symbiandev.cdtools.net/
3. Use SISContents to open GoogleMaps.sisx, and then extract the files somewhere. There should be 4 folders (c_private, private, resource, sys) and 1 file (Google_Maps.pkg).
4. Transfer the extracted files to your phone.
5. Using X-Plore, Modo, or Y-Browser (or any other file manager that can view all files), move the following folders (private, resource, sys) to C: (root). I did not copy Google_Maps.pkg and c_private.
6. Turn off and then turn on your phone. Google Maps should now be updated.
Hope it helps!
Note: After doing the above, I then tried to install Google Maps directly, but I'm still getting the component is built-in message. Anyone knows what file/setting to remove/change to stop having that message?
