hi capacity battery - feedback?

19 replies · 4,920 views · Started 25 February 2003

I know this is an old one, but:

anybody had a bad experience with the non-nokia hi-capacity battery (1200ma).

I cannot understand why more power would "overheat" anything, I thought it would just take longer to charge fully

Paul

I have been using a 1100mAh battery - got fed up with short batt life [std batt]. Absolutely no heat related problems, charges up OK, last very well. 😃 😃

Hi

i had a hi-cap battery which I got for 10, and after about 3months of use....it is dead!!

I cant get more than 1hour of standby out of it!!!

It did not do any damage to my phone.....but its really not worth buying it.....Id rather buy another normal battery !!!

Brian, where did you get that battery and how much was it?

original, packaged nokia batts are goind on ebay for under a tenner if thats what people want, but id rather have 1 battery which has a big capacity.

it was a li-ion, it had a very shoddy sticker on top of the battery...

I think it was a class B li-ion cell, it was manufactured in China......

So make sure that you get a proper Class A cell battery!!

I got one online, but I can't recall where from now. It was about 15.

Its an 1100 mAh and its wonderful. No heat problems what-so-ever, and it charges in about 3 hours.

I've managed to get a weeks use out of the phone if I'm using it for calls and sms a few times a day. It really does resolve the only major issue I had with the 7650 😊

can someone explain to me, i have a 1100mah Lithium Ion one and have had it for about 4 months, now its started getting shorter and shorter life why is this?

also a mate recomended me to change over and use a Li-Polymer 700mAh battery for the phone which is available, unfortunatly i didn't hear the advantages, what are they over lithium ion? will it not last shorter seeing as its only 700mah?

just use non-nokia 8850 batteries. They work like a charm, allthought they give you approx 1 day more operating time. And sometimes the higher capacity batteries show you that theres battery left, when you start calling someone it says the legendary MEEP MEEP and the battery is drained to zero.
Otherwise it works great.

Just on the off chance any one is interested... I pulled apart a BLB-2 Li-Ion cell yesterday (work related reasons) and you can see the all important cell protection circuitry. Without this circuitry there lies the path to overheating batteries and all manner of things that shouldn't happen.

I know the pic is in the wrong album, but there isn't really any other place to put techie pics :-?

Cheap and cheerful Li-Ion cells you can get for a tenner off eBay I'd be highly suspicious of...the price you could end up paying to replace your 7650 would be a lot more....

Mattius, is there a li-ion polymer batt out there? I had a T39 before the 7650, and the battery was ultra-light and lasted ages (obviously no colour or serious apps in the T39) - 3-4 days - with heavy phone use- it's rated at 600mAh, so it may be a good option.

Can anyone point me/us towards a reputable vendor?

Cheers

Paul

Why would you want to put a LOWER capacity cell in your phone?

Hi Jason, I was actually talking about a battery I had in a previous phone, the T39. You're right tho, it's durability is probably linked to clever power optimisation circuitry inside the phone (the T39) - battery capacity is well defined.

All the same re the 7650 I've seen offers on eBay for 400mAh batteries, 700, 850, then comments about 1100 & 1200mAh ones here.

I didn't realise there was so much on offer 😃 even tho I'm still using the original one and recharging overnight, in the car etc etc...

If we used it just as a phone it would probably last a lot longer 😃 😃

Paul

The first thing I did when a got my 7650 was buy an extended non-nokia batery, works a treat and none of this "overheat" problems that everyone always seems so worried about. Also, at the end of the day, if your phone dies there is also your operators insurance. Since I got the phone at the beginnig of jan or so, I have had it replaced once because of theft and once again a few days ago due to loseing it. If the phones dies, use your insurance, the premium wont go up

Eck

you are right liverpool lad 😛

but if we have to use the 7650 as a normal phone why don't we take a 3310 😃 -- geopod kill my phone life!

I've just received two 1250maH batteries, I ordered them online from a small company based in Signapore.

I don't know if the batteries actually reach the capacity they claim as they are just charging for the first time but the professional contact and fast delivery gives me good hope.

I paid 43,00 Euro (+- 30,- GBP) for two batteries including shipping by courier from Singapore to Spain. (shipping was GBP 15,- so the batteries itself cost GBP 7,50 each)

Here is were I found them:

I have purchased the same battery, I believe is called "Beyond". But it doesnt last me more than 2 days, the maximum I have tried is about 1.5 days. Not much better than the original one. In fact I am quite disappointed with this battery. I am using a 7650.

Well I bought a "1200mah" battery for my 7650 from a place in Lisbon mail order (17), and apart from having no identification of who the manufacturer is, it lasts about the same as the standard battery (probably is the standard battery  ) I'm back with the original battery 😞

So if we can work out a quality supplier, he'll have my order!

Paul

there is a li-polymer 700mah battery out there, but I understand that it's "usefulness" is limited to weight and the fact it doesn't lose much charge over time. Not too useful for us, I don't think.
