I'm new to Symbian, is there an easy way to 'close/kill' applications such as Web/Gallery etc... without having to goto Options > Exit?
I'm using an unbranded N96 in the UK. Running latest firmware.

A long press of the menu key brings up the tasklist and then you can press 'C'.
Matter of taste if it is easier than Options > Exit.
It's a shame there's no app out there to auto kill on 'press of red'
Cheers for that though, gives me another option.
Its probably worth saying here that you don't have to exit applications. They'll happily remain running in the background - Symbian OS is general more robust for this sort of thing.
Leaving them running make multi-tasking (switch back / starting again) faster too.

Only applications that explicitely refuse to exit then stick around (that happens to be some of the built-in applications like the music player, podcasting application, gallery; varies a bit depending on the phone and firmware version).Cheers for that though, gives me another option.
In other words, the default behaviour is to exit (has been like that since S60 2nd Edition Feature Pack 2), but some applications have been designed to ignore it (the developer has to do it purposefully).
Web and Maps are the applications I worry about most, does having these open nail the battery life?
Ultimately battery life is my main gripe, not stability.
Yes they can be a bit harsh on battery life when being actively used (especially Maps when moving), but web with an inactive connection be fine...
