Im tired of all the issues with the innov8 and want to move to a different phone.
How much can be made selling the innov8, mines just been replaced under warranty (again 😞 ) so I have a refurbished / as new unlocked 8GB model to sell on ebay or somewhere.
Can you suggest a N-Series or similar phone with similar features?
Needs to be about equal to or less than the money I'd get selling the Innov8.
Dont mind taking a step down to 5mp, as long as the camera is half decent and can take 30fps VGA, with lip sync!!
Other features such as Wifi and GPS arent really important to me. I rarely use the GPS or the Wifi really, especially since I got a mini-laptop thing.
3G (preferably HSDPA) is essential though as I use the phone for internet connection on my laptop. Also would want to keep the FM Radio and 3.5mm headphone jack.
So any suggestions are welcome, not really interested in the 5800 tube though, I like having a physical keypad, not a touchscreen.
How many times have you had it replaced?
Lol, your gonna get these problems with most N-series handsets tbh, the only real thing nokia do better is try to fix them..and they spent like 8 months doing that to the n95....
but if i had to be honest, go n85, awesome...
If you are trying to avoid problems, don't go for the N85! Shocking build quality.
I am not heartened by all the problems you had, but I am looking at the i8910.

I do love my 5800 (dispite the damn time issue), and this is running the same OS.
It's specced up to hell, and it doesn't look like a brick (Nokia take note).
I feel your pain. I've also started looking at ebaying my i8510.
If I get a good price for it, I'll probably get an N85. I have decided I'll take reliability over the superb build quality of the i8510 (except for the dust issue).
As for the i8910, I think this will turn out to be another case of a phone that is great on paper (like the i8510 is) but will disappoint in real world use. Samsung will let us down again with poor support. There are several minor problems with the i8510 which firmware releases could fix.
Let's face it, new OS software is never perfect. What makes Nokia good is that they acknowledge that fact and regularly release firmware upgrades. Nokia's phones might not be perfect but at least they move forward with their current models while also releasing new ones.
I've even started using my N95 again on occasions when I think I'll need the GPS.
I've got the 5800 as well as the i8510 and I can assure you, that while the 5800 is a nice phone, it can't touch the i8510 for the quality of its camera; and the software in the 5800 is NO MORE stable than that in the i8510!
Do you know why?
Because the 5800 is a brand new OS s60v5, its essentially a test for the nokia n97.
Also, press hard down on the 5800, most disgusting thing i've ever seen.
The fact is, i've got an i8510 and i love the dam thing, if your having problems with it.. you need to identify which ones, if you've sent it back to the manufacturer technically after 3 times they should replace it.
I think tbh, your looking for a phone that doesn't excist. Yes nokia do slightly better support but built quality recently has gone to shit. Your hoice.

You're not exaggerating! I just went and had a play with an N85 in the Orange store. The buttons are way too small and the feedback from them is very poor. Plus the whole thing creaks and groans when you press the buttons near the screen. Then there's the call and hangup buttons which are these thin little rubbery things that are difficult to press just right.
This in my view was the only alternative to the i8510 in terms of functionality and form factor and now it's out of the window. I guess I'll just wait patiently for a firmware upgrade from Samsung that makes my Google maps work reliably and my video sound be in sync.

Not a clue, but at my next contract renewal I'm unlikely to get another Samsung if Samsung don't improve their support. I'll probably go for an iPhone and see how that goes. I'll eBay whichever is the least to my liking.
Have you updated the firmware on your i8510?
I did that with mine and that helped somewhat. Though I am still waiting for the January 2009 firmware to appear on the home update service.

The main issue I have is with Google maps spontaneously closing or restarting the phone. Sometimes it works fine and others (usually when I'm lost and in a hurry) it doesn't. Aside from that I must admit (to myself) that it is the best phone on the market in this form factor.
I'd also love some of the Nokia apps to work but I'm hesitant to go down the Hellox hack route.
Can you confirm that your Google maps never misbehaves since doing the firmware upgrade?

I have not noticed any new problems & it certainly improves one of the big bugbears I had that of poor signal strength and lock, their is also a very slight bump up in battery life. you also need to download the memory patch that resolves a lot of the memory handling issues in both the web browser and map applications. Google maps is still a bit odd unfortunately I will conceded, but as I have an N96 too it's less of an issue for me personally.
