Nokia Magnifier debuts

Working on the venerable Nokia N95, N82 and E90 (and compatibles - but not the newer devices with different chipsets), Nokia Magnifier is a new free utility that automates the use of a smartphone camera in focussing 'close-up' mode to provide a virtual magnifying glass, for looking at small print, for example. Video below the break.

Read on in the full article.

Works nicely (E90). Definitely a useful tool to have. Best setup (in options) seems to be; every option turned off (ESPECIALLY "Turn stabilization on", unless you like motion sickness...), but DO select "full screen".

Shame the E90 doesn't like using the camera on the inner screen or this would be really a neat app.

Completely love the idea, but unfortunately it doesnt work on the n85

Sure it starts, and i can se a blury image, and the image manipulation tools work.

But there are two issues:
a) "OK" or middle key on d-pad - nothing hapens i dont get any focus, if I press the camera shutter button the normal camera app starts

b) "Take picture" - camera image freezes, menus still alive, but only way to get on is to close the app.

Could it be that it is stuck in the same fix-focus that is used when video filming from this phone? That fix-focus is set to a rather far distance and ruins most closeups.

I was using version 0.0.8(6) for this test

There definitely seem to be architectural differences between the 'classic' S60 devices (N95, N82, E90 etc) and the newer, more limited breed, with no graphics hardware and with seemingly simplified camera electronics. If this takes off, I'm sure Nokia will adapt it for newer devices though.

😊 Works on E90 , however there is a pop-up saying "systemfault -21" or something like that . Files are stored in Phonememory , no setting for Memorycard found . Here is a picture of my greenish Manchester trouser with tobacco leaf , turned greyish

Does this mean that size of type font in user guide can be even smaller to save more paper in future?

LOL...

Yes, to comply with new environmental rules all future phone manuals will be printed on microdots.

From the blog:
While Nokia Magnifier works on N95, N95 8G, N82, E90 it does not work with camera phones that do not have a camera with auto zoom feature.

The Nokia Magnifer s/w has been updated (23 Mar) to version 0.91.

It now works perfectly on my E71!

From the betalabs website (sorry, I have made insufficient posts here to be trusted to post a URL) ...
