If I do get the unlock code can it be entered without the VF sim card?
You will need to obtain the unlock code from Vodafone if you intend doing it yourself (be careful... you are only allowed 3-5 attempts at this before the phone locks up completely).
Alternatively you can take it to a mobile phone shop that offers unlocking services and this would be my advice.
Get your cousin to get you a Pay as you Go SIM from Vodafone - they are very cheap. Then you or your cousin should be able to get an unlock code from Vodafone. You might have to pay 15 pounds for the code.
