First, it is disappointing to see that there is no general E71 forum over at Nokia forums. At least none that I am able to find. There only seem to be Developer Discussion Boards. (Apart from that nokia.com is listed on rfc-ignorant.org, so I do not receive their (confirmation) mails anyway.)
So where am I supposed to throw my comments in for Nokia to read? :-\ I will do that here then 😊
My main comments are about the e-mail app:
1. Actual headers can be seen nowhere (Received:-Lines, X-...-Headers, etc.)
2. Cannot directly tell the application to store sent mails in a "Sent" folder, have to use server-side hacks with the "send copy to myself" option 😞 Also cannot tell it to store deleted mails in Trash folder.
3. Reply flag is not set when replying (I cannot see on my PC using e.g. Thunderbird which mails were already replied to or not)
Apart from that, I cannot really say what *is* my home network. (Including WLAN access points etc.)
Also, not all applications seem to offer the WLAN access points... but only the data access from the SIM card??
Oh well, and BTW a shortcut for smilies in text messages is missing completely.
Another detail: whereas the default action for the messaging one-touch key is to open the emails, I would have liked to assign that to the messaging key (LONG press). Apparently that is impossible though. :-\
Futhermore, not all keys assignments intuitive, and one could more often use the volume up/down keys, which are in use almost never. I know there are applications for that out there, but still, who is doing the UI testing of these devices? 😉
I also have the feeling that network reception is worse than with my old Nokia phone. But hey, thats only an impression, I have had the device only one week.
Apart from those (and more) details, I nevertheless like the device very much, the UI is fast and cool and does more or less everything I want it to do!
Er, quite a lot to answer there... hope some of this helps
1. Never noticed that, bout you could be right
2. My sent items (emails, SMS, MMS) get stored in the Sent folder, have you turned it off (Messaging, Settings, Save Sent Messages = Yes)
3. Never noticed that
4. "Home network", not sure if that's a comment about you or about the phone. You can specify the Access Point (incl WLAN) in most apps
5. "Not all apps offer WLAN", possibly true for some apps, do you have an example?
6. "Smilies" Do you really use Smilies? I never have, but I've never looked for them
7. "One-touch keys". Works OK on mine (Menu, Tools, Settings, General, Personalisation, One-Touch, Messagin Key, Long Press, choose Messaging, choose Main App View)
8. Yeah, consistency of some functions is poor across some built-in apps. Volume keys are wasted.

Yep, but I meant a Sent folder on the *server*. I need everything (I mean concerning emails!) that happens on the mobile phone to be synchronized to the server. If I sent mail using my normal app on the PC, the stuff is saved in the Sent folder too. But as I said, I found a workaround.
It is still unclear to me at what stage the stuff that is deleted from the mailbox (e.g. using the PC) is deleted on the phone, but hey, somehow, it seems to work. :icon14:

To be frank, I dont remember. So lets give it the benefit of the doubt and say it was a poorly engineered app or I didnt look close enough. In some apps (again, I don't remember) I remember seeing "Easy WLAN" or something; when using this it "just connected" to what was available rightaway 😎
7. "One-touch keys". Works OK on mine (Menu, Tools, Settings, General, Personalisation, One-Touch, Messagin Key, Long Press, choose Messaging, choose Main App View)
What I meant was, the default short press action puts me straight into the mailbox, not into the menu. However that default action is none of the actions from the list, if you choose to select one, therefore it cannot be used for other buttons. Maybe this also is an error in my phone 🙄
Uh yeah and BTW the calculator needs to be replaced in any case.
:frown: Nokia E71's email client looks geriatric for my taste for lack of displaying HTML content.
:frown: Is there anyway to change the typeface/font in the Nokia Email (Messaging) client? Perhaps they could make it bolder or thicker to make emails more readable.
:frown: Can someone tell Nokia to make the Nokia Email's background all white or plain neutral color. Reading emails with the stock wallpaper in the background is distracting. I know some people love to put "stationery" feel to their MS Outlook emails, but most would prefer it plain to focus on the email's message and not be annoyed by multi-colored background. It adds to the already miniscule and thin typeface/font.
😊😊😊 But I'm glad that I ditched my BlackBerry Curve 8330 and Storm, as well as my iPhone for the Nokia E71. Couldn't be happier.

You were in the wrong place. You must've been in the Forum Nokia discussion boards which are for application/content developers.
Nokia's user discussion boards have an Eseries forum and you can find it here:
http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board?board.id=communicators
I'd also noticed that the vanilla email application doesn't tell the server that I've replied to an email, but this was only an observation rather than a bother for me. Of course, your mileage has already varied! 😉
As for access points, having installed SmartConnect, life has become much easier for me. Most of the time I keep the E71 in 2G mode and use WLAN for data transfer - 3G is battery hungry for voice and data calls. I do notice the difference in quality when on a 3G call, but over a Bluetooth headset it isn't the "quality bottleneck."
You might find the Nokia Email / Messenger application helps with the E71's email?
My E71 is my most comprehensive, stable and functional smartphone yet even though its email client isn't as thorough as Chatteremail+ over PalmOS and the SMS / MMS handling is also very old fashioned.
