Porting S80 data to S60 platform?

3 replies · 2,809 views · Started 12 March 2009

After three years of loving my 9300, I've pre-ordered a Nokia N97.

Now comes the arduous task of porting all of my data from the Symbian 80 platform to the Symbian 60 platform.

I am asking for any "words of wisdom" in getting from one to the other based on your experiences.

1. PASSWORDS - this application has an export as CSV or TXT so I see no problem getting data out, but what application for S60 rel. 5 is best for managing passwords? I have over 170 different ones that I track and maintain.

2. CONTACTS - My contact database is large--lots of multiple numbers, addresses, emails per entry with pictures attached, notes and dates. Any suggestions?

3. SMALLBASE - I really love this application for the S80. Is there a comparable one for S60?

4. CUSTOM RINGTONES - no brainer here...I've done this before.

5. WEB (Bookmarks)...is there any easy way to preserve my bookmarks without having to recreate them one-at-a-time?

When you reply, please let me know if you are speaking from experience or just speculating. Remember, nothing succeeds like success!

😊 Do you use a PC ? Then use Nokia PC Suite : free download at Nokia .
I don't have a PC myself , so I had to transfer all the contents from my 9500 to E90 using bluetooth .
1..Contacts and Calender are done by the "Transmission" or "Synchronisation" application in your device .
2. Pictures and audio can be send in packages by bluetooth
3. For text I needed a work-around . See Post "Sending & Storing Text-files from 9500 to E90" .

Thanks for the reply!

I do use a PC (actually I use a LOT of them as well as my two Nokia N800's and an Ubuntu box), but Nokia Suite was loaded on my laptop which died a little over a year ago. I found that the N800 replaced most of the functions of my personal laptop (as opposed to my company laptop) so I've never reloaded it. Instead I use Bluetooth for minor file transfers and take my 1GB MMC card out and stick it into my desktop for major transfers (video/music/ebooks).

I didn't know if the PC Suite software persisted beyond the 9300/9500 platform (i.e. will it talk to the N97?) so I wasn't sure that I could count on it for migrating my data.

So to confirm again....Nokia PC Suite works for all S60 phones?

😊 I am not 100% sure , because I don't own a PC myself . Anyway Nokia has been updating PC Suite , untill S60 3rd at least . Why not for 5th edition . Many users will have a problem then . Check it out . For instance check PC Suite for Nokia 5800 , allso 5th edition .
