Symbian S60 Wifi Problem = MTU

I have a Nokia E90, and when I am connected via wifi, many heavy/rich/secure sites are unaccessible. This is usually the case when the MTU (message transfer unit) is set higher than the gateway's. To investigate, I self signed and installed the free PhoNetInfo application. It confirmed that the MTU was 1500 on the wifi connection. The ADSL gateway on my wifi network is set to 1400 for performance reasons.

There seems to be no way to set the MTU on the phone.

I am running the latest software (v300) and would like to suggest to the symbian developers that they add this ability to the advanced options menu. If anyone knows of a hack or an app that will allow me to set the MTU, please post the answer.

Hi,

Unfortunately i don't know the way to set the MTU, but it seems, that you can fix your problem by simply set your ADSL router's MTU to the correct value.

Cheers,

Swingerman,

That is not a practical solution for various ISPs, because changing the MTU on the ADSL router to the 1500 default will not help, since they REQUIRE a lower MTU for technical reasons.

Not being able to change the MTU therefore a major problem. If symbian does not add the option in the menu, they are effetively limiting the functionality of the wireless experience. Maybe a programmer can write a hack, although I don't know if they will have access to the network layer of the symbian operating system.
