The Nokia E71 today received a firmware update to 210.21.006 from 200.21.118. It is currently available for both Asian and European SIM-free models. Other markets and operators variants will likely follow in due course. It is a relatively minor firmware updates with a few bug fixes and minor application updates.

Read on in the full article.

Check out new and improved photos after this fw update. Nice. did I just update the lense and the sensor as well?

Only one problem remains. There is no way to turn off the flash by default. I take several photos every day through reflective glass, having to turn off the flash every day is a major, major annoyance. enough so I am back to taking my old 6267 to work 😞

I wish I could turn off the flash by default too... Cameras always seem to activate flash at the slightest opportunity, often ruining a good photo.

This isn't just on cameraphones either, my HP digital camera has exactly the same problem, I have to remember to switch off its flash every time I use it.

Fortunately not all cameras. My Sony Cybershot camera remembers if i have turned the flash off 😊

I'm hearing rumours that the E66 also got an update at the same time, using the same base code etc, to take it to 210.21.007 (to the E71's .006).

BUT... that for the E66, this firmware allegedly includes the new "Transition" effects, whereas clearly, the E71 one doesn't.

Just a rumour, so not sure if anyone can confirm...?

But AAS might want to consider updating the title, or the front page, to indicate the E66 has new firmware too.

And if it is true about it getting transitions, then why didn't the E71, if it's the same base code release.

Doh.

I doubt the admins would like me posting the code here. I googled for it, and about million lists of product codes came up. An hour later I had a Finland Sim-free E71 (As far as I can tell I am always the First to get FW updates, a month ahead of other |North European countries, even.)

As to the involuntary flashing problem I am experiencing. Since the updates don't seem to cure it, I may just cover the LCD over with black tape. Might work with my snap-on case.

Hello Richard

Not sure what all the secrecy is about. I have an E71 UK SIM Free (from eXpansys) and the PC is 0567045.

Hope that helps

I saw big drama in some other forum when someone tried to post them. Might have been some Nokia place, didn't feel like being that guy 😉

This worked for me: RM-346 EURO B1 Finland Gray Steel: 0558783

I fail to see why. Do enlighten me! Unless it's a case of protecting people from themselves by not encouraging them to use a service like the NSS. Sounds a bit 'big brother' to me. And I'm sure that the people at NSS would be naffed to hear that.

the one new feature i have noticed is there is a email folder in my folders of messaging applictions. i have RM-346 code. it was missing before. nokia was advertising this feature in NAM market.

My paranormal skills have been down lately, so I haven't been able to read other people's minds over the internet. You will just have to head over to the Nokia support forums and find out yourself if you wish to become enlightened.

I updated today and have not noticed anything new. The only thing is that tonight the E71 crashed and started to reboot, an event that rarely happened before, so I don't hope it is a new undocumented feature 😊

i'm experiencing problems with this last firmware and the bundled Windows Live Messenger (1.1.9000) application.
WLM refuses to start, by clicking on it nothing happens. I tried with a hard reset too...

Could anyone confirm this?

answering to myself: I needed to install Nokia_Internet_Services_Support_Package.SIS because it disappeared after the upgrade

This is the worst update I have ever made............ If some one knows where to download the older firmware kindly post it online. My phone freezes, hangs and the reception is worst than ever. not to mention more drop calls........ Nokia please address this issue!!!!!

The smart dialing feature where you start typing the name of your contact on the home screen and it brings up the contacts, doesn't work with the new firmware. I have only just realised how useful it is and how dependent I have become on it. Does anyone know if it has to be manually configured?

I love my E71, except for the infamous purple tinge to camera shots in low light. A handful of posts here and on the Nokia site for users talk about "major problems with firmware update 210.21.006," which seem to be random and frequent crashes. Other posters around the web report no trouble at all, and some underline the importance of using the Nokia software upgrade utility and not changing product codes to "fool" the software about which region the phone is intended for. One post I found rather pointedly remarked that if you simply follow Nokia's upgrade instructions, everything will be fine, but that if you try to load firmware from non-official sources into hacked phones, you could be in for trouble. Can someone more expert in these things please comment on all this? Should I upgrade my phone or not ? Thanks J
