Sports Tracker gets touch polish, accessory support, step counting and zoomable maps

Reported widely today is a new over-the-air update to Nokia's GPS-uber-utility, Sports Tracker. v2.05 (up from v1.83) brings better touch support (map zoom icons, more reliable finger swipe screen transitions), plus N79-like support for the Polar heart rate monitor and (on compatible devices) the integration/backup of accelerometer-based step counting. You can get v2.05 by going into the application and using 'Check for updates'.

Read on in the full article.

It still does not support network destinations, as in you have to pick an specific access point and stick with it. 😞

Is there any way to buy that heart rate monitor without N79?

Polar is an independent company, I'm sure they'd be happy to sell you a heart rate monitor without a Nokia phone.

The program works fine but I cant see the accelerometer-based step counting, where is it?

Sorry steve, I dont understand you, I cant see "number of steps" or something like that. Can you be more explicit? thank you in advance.

Yes, come on Nokia/Polar, sell us the bluetooth heart rate belt separately!

I've seen so many people on different websites and forums that want the HR belt to go with their existing Nokia S60 device...

Now Nokia just needs to sell the HR belt!

The heart rate belt is not a Nokia product, it's made by Polar.

Polar already sell the heart rate belt separately:

You can find your nearest Polar dealer from this link:

Just to stress again, Polar is a totally separate company to Nokia. They're both Finnish, but they're independent of each other.

Tzer2, the regular heart rate belt isn't using Bluetooth, I think, so it will not work with phones. Polar would have to start selling separately the Bluetooth version that now seems to be only bundled with the N79 Active.

If you check Polars forum, you can see that they don't have such a product on sale, except "business to business", i.e. through Nokia. What a fantastic blunder again to start upgrades for Sports Tracker but not having the accessory available except bundled with a N79.

Sorry, you're right that they're different products, the BT version isn't available in retailers. If you look at the images below hopefully you can see why I made the mistake, they have the same name and look virtually identical...

Blunder by who? Nokia don't make the monitor, and Polar don't make Sports Tracker.

As I said before, the heart rate monitor is made by Polar, so it's not Nokia's decision about selling it separately. The only people who would be able to sell it separately are Polar themselves. Post on Polar's forum if you want it to be sold separately, let them know you'd buy it.

Doesn't appear to be available for S60 3.2 devices yet (neither via check for updates or from the sportstracker website)

If you are that keen, perhaps you could approach Poler (or perhaps Nokia) asking for it as a replacement part for the existing lost/damaged one.

I assume someone sells spares...

Hi guys!

Tried to get in touch with nokia support since wondering if they will sell the Polar chest band on its own (N96 is hopefully compatible...). This is soon 3! weeks ago and not a word from the support. Anyone else who has had better luck with their in this case useless support?

Regards...

Mike

I wrote it's a blunder 'cause Polar is making the BT belt only for Nokia and Nokia is turning would-be customers to Polar. How hard could it be for either company to announce something of the accessory availability rather than play ping-pong with their customers?

As the belt is made by Polar and not Nokia, you might want to try Polar's customer support instead.

Polar's rep said on the forum they MIGHT sell the belt to consumers separately, but at the moment they only sell them to other businesses.

The best way to convince them to sell the belt separately is to tell them you'd be willing to buy it:

Awrighty then! Feels like I'm wishing for this scenario 😉. Within a couple of months Polar gets tired of waiting for Nokia, so they start selling it themselves. Promise, I'll be first in line to purchase a belt, whenever It becomes available. Kinda feels like the only thing to do is simply wait...

Big thanks for the info...
