Does anyone know when we might expect a firmware upgrade for the n96?

i have the latest V12 but it is sh*t, sometimes it can take over 10 seconds to open a text message, and the video is also slow to open and often crackles and pause's

the only reason i have kept this phone is because i have tomtom 6 and copilot live 7 on it, otherwise it would of been on ebay by now

phone: t-mobile uk supplied, debranded to allow V12

any comments or views please

i agree v12 isnt the finsished article yet

for example my n96 dosent seem to have marco mode programmed into the v12 firmware its there but it dosent work and vi recording can crackle like you which can be annoying

iam hoping they dont forget the n96 now the newer n86 and n97 are being released shortly

iam hoping nokia dont count v12 as being the final firmware

nokia maps 3 is in beta at the minute but is expected to be ready for the release of the n86

i would kind of expect a new firmware around the time that nokia maps 3 goes final as i can see them adding this to the firmware

id also expect the firmware to patch up the hacking method that is currently avalible for the n96 and v12 as nokia seem pretty good at closing doors on these hacks in future firmwares

havent heard anything from the net or other sources to clarify this but its just my guess work

hopefully it comes sooner then later

There's also the issue of videos taking up to 5 seconds to start playing, and the settings menus mysteriously exiting at random points. Browsing photos is like running through treacle too.

But I think the slow text message functionality as previously mentioned is the most annoying thing.

The N95 has had dozens of firmware updates in its 2 year life so far, I hope Nokia puts as much effort into the N96. It is, afterall, supposed to be their current flagship phone.

Steve.

After owning the Nokia N73, I said I wouldn't buy another Nokia as they are just slow and sluggish. I went back to Sony for a year and the phones are reliable, just a bit boring. When I saw the N96 I thought I would give it another go and now I have confirmed that I won't buy another N series phone.

Hopefully they'll release a new firmware as others have said, the phone is slow to load things and the camera and video functions aren't that great (way too slow to load).

I'm thinking I should have just gone with my instinct and bought the iPhone.
