Nokia barcode reader font?

I installed the Nokia barcode reader, and it works on the 5800.

However, everytime I scan a barcode and it decodes it, I briefly see the text, but then the font seems to change into something else which replaces all the letters of the text with boxes... (Like the boxes you might see on your computer when you are viewing text with characters that your current font does not support).

The curious thing is that the content of the barcode displays briefly in proper text before changing! A work around to still at least read the contents at my leisure is to tell the Nokia barcode reader to send the contents via an SMS or email, which then creates a new message with the contents plainly readable in the Messaging application.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

It seems to want to use some kind of font resembling a 7-segment LED/LCD display... capital letters, numbers and punctuation display correctly in this font - just not lowercase, which is the bulk of the content ...

This is with software version 20.0.012, on a model imported from Indonesia.
