Winding up his three week tour of the USA, taking in social media and gaming events, Ewan decides to take a kitchen knife to his Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. No, really. In this, the eighth of his regular video reports, embedded below, letting us know how he's getting on with S60 5th Edition and the 580, he talks about pricing, input options, N-Gage, Lifeblog, Music player, the stylus that's easy (for him) to lose and application compatibility. If nothing else, gasp as the aforementioned knife puts the 'soft' resistive screen to the ultimate test...

Ewan, the last time i saw a thumbnail like yours it was on me gran.

In case you're wondering, a "580" is what you get when you cut a "5800" with a kitchen knife 😊.
A) Ewans not going to be hired by the Nokia 5800 PR team anytime soon is he?! No-one's going to accuse him of being a 5800 fanboy either.
B) Someone needs new headphones! Sellotape and Elastoplast?
C) "Sunny San Francisco". Yes it is sunny isn't it. AND ITS ALL BOUNCING OFF THE WHITE BUILDINGS BEHIND YOU AND STRAIGHT INTO THE LENS! All i saw was a dark blob holding up a smaller dark blob. "See what i'm doing on the screen?" Er, no.
D) Looks more like a standard issue restaurant steak knife to me. Just don't forget and leave it in your carry on luggage, TSA doesn't like that...

Yes, no idea what the story is with Ewan and nail painting. Best not to ask?

Well spotted. Fixed!
>>No-one's going to accuse him of being a 5800 fanboy either.
Ah, the message is finally getting out that at AAS none of us are fanboys. Maybe 'fans' of Symbian, but we call out all the negatives as we see them, don't worry.

Ewan is McGuyver.....

Yes, I sighed when I saw that. Still trying to educate Ewan in these matters - still, he's learning, hopefully!!!?

Sounds like there's still a problem with the audio quality...not as bad as when he was by a fountain, but still quite difficult to hear. It seems like the mic needs to be more directional - towards the direction the camera is facing anyway....the background sounds seemed louder than Ewan was.
Still, what he had to say was pretty interesting...
Sounds (geddit) about right for the N95, which he was using for recording. Yet another positive for the venerable old N93, with its stereo forward facing mikes..... sigh.....
When I record The Phones Show in my N82, I have to make sure to record indoors in a whisper-quiet environment for these very reasons. The Nseries mikes are actually of high quality, but yes, most of them face to the side 8-(
NB. The INNOV8 also has a forward facing video recording mike, but the audio sync problems wreck any chance of me filming with it.... grrr.....
there are two stylus in the box. (well there was in mine) 😉
My shop bought 5800 had a spare stylus in the box, and the supplied wriststrap has a guitar pick which works well for tapping the screen.
(Though one of my female friends finds it funny that it is red like a heart, and jokes that I have become a girl.)

I've never ever used the stylus on my 5800, my fingers suit the interface just fine.
But yes, I got two styluses with my 5800 and a phone-charm plectrum as well (and it's a standard retail 5800 purchased from a shop).
