Nokia Messaging 1.1

Nokia has released version 1.1 of its next-generation smart email system. Nokia Messaging 1.1 includes much wider language support, Windows Live Hotmail support, support for up to 10 IMAP folders and HTML formatting in emails (at last). To download it, go to email.nokia.com in Web on your S60 phone. Note that support for the 5800 and S60 5th Edition is coming in 'May'.

Great News !!! I was waiting for Hotmail support for so long.

After your click install now in your Nokia messaging account on PC, it sends you 2 messages(sms).
Which one to use? I did with one with some key and end and it worked.
But I got mails in my Hotmail account stating that this version of Nokia messaging may need update.

"HTML Formatting in Emails..."

Someone care to explain to me exactly what that is, or how I would notice it...

As it's not appearing any different at all for me...

I assume this is not full HTML rich messaging, but whatever it is, I see NOTHING different at all...?

It seems like it is still a long way behind the functionality, speed and usability of Profimail, although it handles HTML (which is rendered very well, eventually) you have to go through umpteen clicks etc to get an email fully downloaded that contains HTML and attachments. It is also very slow to operate compared to Profimail, so I am afraid I have removed it from my device again.

Best Regards
Nick

On the contrary, I think this is the first version of Nokia Email that rivals Profimail, of which I am a registered user. Profimail is still faster, but that's about all that can be said now with this new 1.1 release.

I also got two SMS messages, the second one didn't work, the first downloaded v9.05(41) compared to v9.04(41) that I already had installed.

Interestingly, the version in the "About" menu went from v2.2 to v5.0.

Steve.

-EDIT- I take back my previous remark about Profimail. I just discovered that even if you choose "HTML" in the settings, it still loads as plain text. You then have to choose HTML to load it again, which is quite slow and the message scrolls horizontally (again, quite slow) even though there is no horizontal scroll bar. In other words, it doesn't scale it to fit the screen and you don't know how far to the right the message scrolls. Back to Profimail until v1.2 maybe.

Guys,

Forgive me, I don't wish to seem rude...

But I did ask earlier HOW you get messages to open up in HTML mode (even if it doe now sound cumbersome).

And despite two fo you saying this is working for you, neither of you elected to say HOW...

Or is it done automatically, and I'm just missing something...?

But I'm not seeing a shred of HTML here, poor or not...

So, how do you get it to open messages HTML formatted rather than plain text with relevant web link for html...?

EDIT:

Despite having installed it TWICE now, and rebooted the phone inbetween, it DID update my installation, and ask if I wanted to replace 9.04 xxx with 9.05 xxx or something like that popped up.

But in my ABOUT screen, mine is telling me it is 9.4.1.34 (main) Prod Vers 2.2

NOT 9.5, Prod Vers. 5, as talked about above.

So I don;t even think it HAS updated mine...?

Weird...

Nope - just re-downloaded it yet again, and installed it.

And STILL no HTML mail, and no Prod. Ver. 5 in my "About" dialog.

What am I doing wrong...

does anyone know if there is a way to make the homescreen plug in for this to be only 1 line?

i have the number of emails and then the header from the first unread email right under it. ive looked through all of the settings, so i am not all that hopeful this can be changedbut i thought i would ask.

After a complete uninstall, then a reboot, and then re-download I now finally have the CORRECT version on my phone with HTML support.

Note - if you receive two sms links, if you set it up that way, the one that seems to have worked for me, is the one with a hyperlink ending just "/ota" NOT any with a coded link.

So clearly, there is a massive issue here in terms of both downloading the correct version in the first place, as well as it not being very good and doing an upgrade install.

Doh to Nokia twice, for each issue therefore.

1. The fact that it is now EMAIL ONLY really a stopper for me. No Calendar or Contact sync.

2. If you use GMail with Nokia Messaging, it displays ALL MAIL, not the Inbox.

3. I have set some heavy rules on my GMail and in Nokia Messaging, these rules aren't applied. All emails arrived in my phone, including those I dont want...

4. And there's no support for GMail Labels too.

5. Till all the above are ironed out, I'll stick with System Seven. It's faster, more powerful, it syncs my Google Calendar and it doesn't have the UI eye candy that makes scrolling slow...

I use Gmail with Nokia Messaging and it is the Inbox and not All Mail that is synced. I can also select folders to sync (labels on Gmail) without any problems.
