Exclusive: the BBC has re-enabled the 'Download' system in their iPlayer widget for UK residents. In addition to the streaming option, video downloads were initially withdrawn because of lack of DRM compatibility with some Nokia 5800 product codes. The issues seem to have now been resolved and the Download! option is back. Thankfully. See below for screenshot proof.

BBC, please set up some kind of subscription service for people outside the UK. Even if it only offers a more restricted range of programmes, it would be better than shutting people out totally. A lot of people abroad know and enjoy BBC programmes, and of course licence fee payers do go on holiday from time to time.
And why does the World Service still say "UK Only" if people try to listen to it outside the UK through iPlayer?
I have just downloaded the latest version of BBC iPlayer OTA on my 5800, found the exact same programme - Apprentice Episode 2 (60 mins) available until 14th June but I do not have a download option! What's going on?
Cheers

You used my URL, i.e. you didn't use the Download! folder version? They used to be different, which is why I ask..... though they might now be the same.....

I too have installed from the Downloads! folder but don't get the option to download programmes 😞

Er... it's now April 2nd. Or are you serious? I see an area where you can get details of what's 'now on air' but not the broadcast itself.
Downloads are working iplayer is useful again!
Yes, live broadcasts come from the bbc website, not every programmme though.
Well spotted, sir. Funnily enough, just this morning I tried yet again in hope that this might work on the 5800 - looking to download last week's Click for viewing on the move - but no joy.
Note to self: Must spend more hours in the day checking and re-checking for changes to services! No, but seriously, it's great to have confidence that when something like this happens, you AAS types (!) will be there letting me know very quickly. I know it's not really critical in the great scheme of things, but I appreciate it.
Tim
Can anybody else confirm live broadcasts from the BBC mobile website, or is it just clips?

Gordon Bennett.
I see the page; doesn't work on N95-1, or PC, presumably due to DRM. I'll try on the wife's 5800 later and if it works I'm getting one.
Thanks all, I've made the live thing a news story in its own right now, with screens from the 5800.... 8-)
Aergh, the live radio streams don't work outside Britain.
The BBC's radio streams have been free to worldwide listeners for about five or ten years now, which is why so many of the BBC DJs talk about being available "around the world on the web". Is that going to stop now?
This is frustrating. I've downloaded the app via the Download! folder over the air but when I try to play programmes I only get the option to stream them, not download.
I'm using a 5800 in the UK with firmware 11.0.009
Streaming live TV is working, though.
Weirdly I uninstalled iPlayer from the phone and could still watch recorded iPlayer progs over wifi, so the the app doesn't appear to be necessary to play streamed iplayer programmes. What's going on?
Can somebody who has successfully downloaded programmes please explain exactly what they did.
Thanks.
dabberdave - You need v20 firmware I believe for the Download option to work.
Thank you, that did the trick!
