Searched around for what I had happened and wondered if any of the experts had any commentary on this.

I've spent the last several years in the WM field and have upgraded my PPC phones till I thought the Flash ROM�s would wear out! Now to my issue.
I purchased this E71-2 new two weeks ago from newegg. Came with firmware 100.07.76 installed. I also installed a brand new SanDisk 8GB memory card and formatted it with the phones utility. After installing PC Suite and letting it do all its upgrades, I checked the phone firmware for upgrades because I had read enough on various forums to know that newer firmware was out for the E71-2. However, the upgrader at that time indicated that no new upgrades were available. OK.
To set the stage for what's coming, I also changed the Phone Lock code, entered a passphrase for remote locking, enabled that, and also set the phone for a 60 minute auto-lock. I did NOT set a memory card password.
So I went around learning more about my new baby this past week and checked for newer firmware again today. Now indicated that 200.21.118 was available. I backed up my entire phone and card using PC Suite and I also did a File copy of what was installed on the card. A couple of applications and music files were the only contents.
Before I started the firmware update, I disabled the remote locking, auto-lock, and set the password back to the default of 12345. I also left the card in the phone as I had read somewhere it didn't matter or was better to do this. Yes I know it all is "supposed" to get overwrote, habit, habit habit....
Firmware upgrade completed fine. Phone restarted and after initial setup, I got the Memory Card locked message and was presented with an opportunity to unlock it. Needless to say, neither the default 12345 or my old lock code had any effect. Found this old tip - http://www.s60tips.com/2007/03/03/another-tip-for-password-protected-memory-card/ from another post in this forum but apparently the password field is only so long as my passphrase was longer than what the field would allow. Did some more searching for answers, but finally just did another format of the card from the phone and that appears to have me back at ground zero again.
So my main question to the community is this one of those wonderful "undocumented features"?
Does the memory card really assume the passphrase as the password as the linked post above suggests? If so, my next passphrase will be shorter next time!
Did the Noobie do something wrong? 😮
Just don't really want to go through this again if you know what I mean......
