Whats the point of WeFi?

Hi everyone

A lot of websites give the application called WeFi a lot of praise. I dont really understand why though. Doesnt it just do what the phone always could do? i.e. search for hotspots? If I click on 'WLAN scanning off' on my home screen, my Nokia does exactly what WeFi does. So back to the title, whats the point of WeFi?

ABArchive wrote:WeFi software eliminates the need of manually selecting WiFi networks. Instead, WeFi software automatically searches for an available and reliable WiFi networks when you connect to the Internet. Future versions of WeFi will also get infromation about available wireless network from WeFi's global database, improving the quality and speed of connection even further.

I guess it automatically picks the best wifi networks for ya so you're not trying and testing different unsecure networks while you're on the move. If you don't tend to connect to random wireless networks, you probably wouldn't find it useful.

😊 Good question .
However , sometimes people are allready Happy with a new interface ...
Interface is nice . WeFi can allso start-up automatically when starting the Phone .

cheers for the reply.

But to the poster above, so what if it starts up automatically? So does the built in version!

You are right that these particular programs tend to do exactly what you can already do from your phone, but often in addition to this they will allow you to (at least visually) skip the authentication step (logging in), saving you a few keystrokes. They tend to do this only for a select few networks, but what these programs really are is spyware.

In the process of connecting you to some preferred service provider, some send out a burst of usage statistics, maybe cell location details, phone number, imei, that type of thing. While they may not always be able to specifically ID you personally, they still amass a great deal of info on what you are using your phone for.

Some people are ok with this, some are not.
