hi i'm so sorry to bother you all here as everyone sounds so well versed but i just bought (well was bought for me) a n9210i (for NZ$2,500 - i know i'm still gasping) and it is the most amazing phone/gadget/thing i have ever seen. my problem is i've downloaded some skins from the sites mentioned here warlocks, loonyworld etc. and "installed" them but i can't get the skins to cover both the left and right panel as well as the middle. i also got icon manager and some icon packs but i can't seem to figure out how to use it or install the icons. i copy them to c: and icon manager loads them but there is no option to install them. also could you pls tell me what a good mono sampling rate is to convert my wavs to.
this is a wonderful forum by the way
thank u so much in advance
Alright 😃
Skins:
To change the background of desk use the shorcut shift+Ctrl+k (menu-tools-settings)
To change the right panel go to the configuration application (from extra or in Desk press menu-tools-configuration(shift-Ctrl-c))
In the configuration screen you'll see an app called Display.
Launch it, go to Colour and change the second option (you'll be able to select 5 things, no background and 4 backgrounds)
After selecting this background the application will ask for a reboot, after this it should be ok 😉
Icons:
Load them using IconManager, after it's loaded you can use the icons for shortcuts in Desk.
Go to Desk, select/stand on a shortcut, press Ctrl-P or menu-file-properties and than select the icon you want.
Wav&video:
Use the MultiMediaConvertor from nokia to create the wav files. It will use the optimal bitrate (filesize will about half the size of a 128bps mp3).
Also use this app to convert video files to be played with your 9210. [Get it here]
Good luck and have fun
well is there a way to get new designs to be changed on the left and right pane ?
I don't know for sure, but usually the left pane is left as it is. You can alter the right pane and the middle section (background) but the left pane cannot be edited.
Why this is, I cannot answer. Others can do.

Hi Dazler,
Thank you so much for the advice it was most helpful. By the way your reviews have been most helpful as well. I just have a few minor specifics to ask regarding my earlier questions. Hope it isn't a bother:
a) As Bilal noted I was hoping to find out how to install NEW pictures to cover both the LEFT and RIGHT panels and how to change to these new pics once installed. From installing some of the skins it seems to me that installing the new display.mbm (c:\system\data is this correct?) from the skin installs new images within that .mbm file that you can then select from the colour tab of the display app. So it seems i just have to find more skins with a display.mbm accompanying them? Some skins contain a disply.src file that it says to install to c:\system\controls (is this correct?). So the right panel seems fine. What I was hoping was a way to install a new pic to the LEFT panel that hase he clock/battery indicator etc. on it. Or a way to stretch the background pic to cover it. I remember seeing a post from Switchblade that I think explainaed it but I can't find it now. I would LOVE to have a skin that went full screen without having to use active desk.
b) With regard to the wavs. I remember seeing a post where someone mentioned the exact bitrate, channels, codec?? etc. that they used under dbpoweramp to convert their wavs because they, as i am, were unsatisfied with mmc. Would it be possible to get some suggestions pls.
I can't seem to find the posts containing the instructions for changing the right panel display and the wav settings. So sorry for bothering you but I hope someone can help.
Thank you in advance

Also could someone pls tell me how to set shortcut keys for apps etc. that aren't already predefined.

I think I'm talking to myself here... ah well. I was also wondering whether it is possible to change the nokia start up screen with the two hands??
Thanx again for the tips
Hi Matai
Don't get discouraged, weekends are slow on AAS. You will get answers, trust me 😊
Earlier thread on changing the start up screen can be found here
http://allaboutsymbian.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4759
I don't know if there is new information somewhere. Try the Search-option 😉
I'm finishing up my skinning tutorial ... this will teach you how to create skins that cover the right and middle wallpaper
The left wallpaper is still impossible to change ...
Wav files: http://www.nc9210.de/9210/wav.php
Shortcuts: use AppMan 😉 The standard apps (like extra) also have such shortcut functionality but it sucks, you can set that ctrl-extra to launch Control Panel for instance but that will only work when you have extras running :s So use AppMan 😛
The startup screen ... indeed nothing publicly released on how you should do it. But it can be done 😉 If I find out I'll post it 😊
forgot to say that the display.mbm indeed contains 4 images, the display.rsc is just a with a Hex editor changed version of the original display.rsc to give you new descriptions in the display app (so it would state "background skin:" for instance)

Thanks for the tips Dazler and Laura. I'm beginning to make sense of my communicator now. I will install appman and try and get these shortcuts working. Looking forward to the skinning tutorial.
Cheers.
