hi

after having the n96 since release, im beginning to wonder what it really has to offer since the n95.

ive been fighting the n96 corner for a while now, but when i look at all the other phones out there, especially the iphone. i begin to wonder if i got the right phone.

the apps seem to be non existent and iphone seems to have taken the lead on this and on the games.

anyone got some hope?

Sorry fella I can't agree with you at all !!! I changed to the N96 from N95 8GB a device I loved but i now find the N96 better alltogether. Better design, looks better and great screen that looks bigger than the N95 8GB !!!. It's great for watching films on (which i do regular when I'm travelling to and from Bangkok.) I love the podcasting and the way the gallery works, sorting out photos etc . The main thing for me was that the memory is very useful to have in my job . There are so many things I love about this device I use it 90% of the time instead of using my computer because it does so much.

As for no applications well sorry I can only laugh about that one !!! There are hundreds out there depending on what you want!!! I myself have 64 different ones installed all doing a job i want them to do !!.

And again with regard to games I personally use the NGage games, I've 6 now that I like and they work flawlessly, despite people saying they don't work right because of no graphics chip, rubbish !!! Skyforce, again my personal choice but there are many more out there if you look for them.

As for the Iphone as someone who owned one there is no way it can compete function wise ( yes It looks the dogs b*&%^%$ ) but compare what it can do compared with and not just the N96, the N95, N95 8GB, N85 and N79 the E series... the list goes on !!! They win hands down, it depends on what the user wants!!!

Lastly, you'll notice I don't use the term phone, for me from the N95 onwards they stoped being just phones - but devices t(hat if you learn how to use them) they can replace laptops in many ways. They do for me anyway, but I'm not a business user. Many a time I see people lugging their laptops about just to do their private e-mail and browse the internet. I do that and so much more on my N96 .

I can't wait for the N97 experence, I'm sure that will do even more for me

I have to disagree too! I came from a N95 and was frustrated at the slowness/crashing of the v11 firmware, but once I debranded fron vodafone and installed v12 it's been great!

I use it for 60 -70% of my daily computing needs such as email (Nokia Messaging app is great!), RSS feeds, Facebook, GPS (Nokia Maps 3.0), games on the train, music, podcasts and more....

The only thing that frustrates is the lack of a keyboard...... roll on the N97!

My N96 is much more stable than my N80, yet in terms of experience I'm not sure what's changed enough to make me sing it's praises...

Assisted GPS - great, but Nokia maps in my experience isn't a patch on TomTom..
Facebook is just a web link, nothing more..
Most of the rest of the software I currently have I had on my N80 just with a bigger screen.
iPlayer is great, yet I still have DRM issues and can only download via my computer and let media player sort out the licence.
Camera is better, but I'm a DSLR user so casual snaps aside it's not used..

I've just wasted my lunch hour trying to get some accelerometer based software working, none of runs properly - having to install python this python that and it not working still..

Compare and contrast to a colleague with an iPhone - seamless download of working applications first time out of the box.

The high end Nokia's still don't seem to properly cater for the mass market, and you can argue that the iPhone may not be superior in a multitude of ways, but if the end user experience is richer, perceived to be easier, joe public looking at the two phones will go with that..

After having 4 N96 phones from 3 since October and being utterly pissed off with the terrible performance, freezing, general unreliability and poor battery life, I resorted to using my N95 (so much more reliable) until 3 came up with an alternative for me.

I now have a SE C905 which is just superb. It doesn't have all the apps that Nokia have but most of the stuff on the phone is standard (nav etc) and reliable. Battery life goes after a days heavy use - thats internet and always on email - something my n96 couldnt do on 3. The C905 has some nice touches and the camera and music player is amazing.

Overall its superb. The quality looks good but the keyboard isn't as good as N95 0 its very smooth like the n96. I like tactile buttons personally.

Anyway I'm off Nokia at least until they can make a phone that does as it says it should. N96 was a poor flagship phone with too many bugs.

I actually quite like my N96 to use, the only problem I have is build quality. It's now being repaired again after the power switch has come unsoldered. Everything on the phone just seems loose and plastic.

Think I'm giving the N97 a miss and going for the Omnia HD. The old Omnia I had was lovely quality. Shame it was Winmo.
