Just got my phone back from "repair", if you can call it that, by Carphone, and as part of the work done theyve flashed it to what they call the latest firmware, HH7.
Trying to update it back to HI4 or whatever the latest is but PC suite cannot find the update server. Is it down?
Not too happy with my repair from Carphone. Took 13 days. On the receipt I got when I sent the phone off, the faults were listed as
- Dust under screen
- right dpad key irresponsive
- camera lens cover sticks.
When it returned, work done was listed as
- Flashed to latest firmware
- Battery replaced
- Internal flex ribbon replaced
On the list the repair center were given of faults, they seem to only have made an attempt at the right Dpad key missing presses, by replacing the internal ribbon cable. It hasn't even fixed the fault, it must be a problem with the connection under the key.
The camera lens problem has as far as I can tell not even been looked at, as has the dust under the screen. There's also now a nice new scratch on screen that wasn't there beforehand.
How replacing the battery and flashing to the "latest" firmware helps with a dusty screen or the camera lens sticking I don't know.
The best part is that Carphone tell me that they no longer stock i8510, so my only option is to send it off again! Apparently this time it's an express repair, so it only takes 5 days. Still not really good enough though. Im paying �35 per month, which works out as nearer �42 with an internet add-on on and a few MMS, as well as however much there insurance policy is, and I'm going to have missed nearly a month of service whilst its off getting repaired, I know I can use the Nokia 1100 or whatever it is whilst its gone but if that was the kind of phone I wanted to be using then it wouldnt be costing me the best part of fifty quid every month.
I know its not Carphone's or Orange's fault this happens, but it is their fault they haven't bothered fixing it the first time.
Do I have any chance for getting it swapped, even if it is for a slightly different model? (refurbished if needs be, I'm not expecting a brand new different phone or anything unreasonable)
