Problems with emame

I've tried several roms and I have just found one that works and thats 1943 both Japanese and American version. I've tried about 30 of the games listed in the emame program but I always get the message; files missing, and then it lists all the files thats missing and yes they are missing but the roms works just fine on my computer and thats odd.

Anyone who knows whats wrong?

I had exactly the same problem. At first I thought I downloaded duff ROM files, but like you found they worked fine on the desktop MAME. Have not found any solution yet... 😞

You are using the wrong ROMS, there are many versions of te same ROM, emame only supports specific ROM files not just certain games so you cant just use any ROM.

You must use the ROM fle with the name exactly shown in the compatible ROM list : -

Even if the names are identical just some of them works, I tested 10 games from the list and just 2 worked. 😞

Not all the games waork and a lot are not controlable, the older ROMS work, here are some that work for me

1943
Championship Baseball
Commando
DigDug
Do! Run Run
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Junior
Dr. Toppel's Tankentai
Exed Exes
Galaga
Galaxian
GreenBerets
Gyruss
Jr. Pac-man
Kick Champions
Mario Bros.
Ms. Pacman
Pooyan
Ponpoko
Super Zaxxon
Time Pilot
Vastar

There are many type of rom file exist in MAME. Some of them are split rom and the other one is stand alone. What you get from the WEB normally is in split rom format which means part or some of the files in the rom (zip file) are stored in other (parent) rom file which in turn shared to some other game which also using the same rom file. MAME also support many clone games so, the needed files can exist into that file also.

As you can guess, this is more efficient for download from the WEB as the file size is smaller compare to standalone one. So in order for you to run the game you should have to get all the needed rom file in one zip file (combine them into 1 zip file). :P

Well, EMAME is converted from MAME37b which is a rather old version (the PC version should be around 65 now)

At certain points of development, some roms are recompiled so the roms circulating the net nowadays are mostly compiled for the newer version. If you can get the .37 roms, they'll work fine...

I have some greater problems with mame. The first is about file handling. I cannot open games greater than 200-300 kb's of size...Mame crashes giving a strange error. I believe there is sth wrong with zip handling. Other emu's (like SMS) can handle game zips over 1 meg...

And I often get a black screen only after the wellcome screens (like with New Zealand story)

I believe a few versions will get us to a perfect emulator...

Ok I just installed donkey kong, but on the installed games list it shows

Donkey Kong (japan set 1)
Donkey Kong (japan set 2)
Donkey Kong (US)

The US one is the only one that works so how do I stop it showing the japan ones.

TIA
