N82 battery keeps going flat

The battery on my N82 keeps going flat very quickly, it will show a full charge but if I take a few pics or send emails, it suddenly goes flat, I have put a new battery in but it still does the same.

I have tried reinstalling the lastest firmware but that has not helped, hope someone can help.

Mick.

It looks like a hardware problem to me. The best thing to do would be to take the phone to a service.

I sometimes struggle to get a full day out of my N82 battery, as I have an email app (Profimail) checking 4 mailboxes every 90 minutes.
Perhaps you have a similar heavy power consuming app running in the background?

2 other things worth checking:-

1. If you are in a weak 3G signal area and the handset keeps swapping between 3G and 2G. You could configure the N82 to stay on 2G and see if it makes any difference?

2. Ensure that packet data is set to 'when needed' and not 'when available' - check the data symbol (=, E, etc) is not displayed at all times.

If none of the above work, try the following test:-

Remove your memory card, synchronise your contacts with PC Suite, then format the internal phone memory (*#7370#) .
If there's still no difference, then maybe you do have a hardware fault as suggested by ratza

I tried the (*#7370#) so that the phone reverted back, it booted up fine, I inserted the 8gig memory card back in the phone and done a restore from the card, half way through the restore the phone locked up 😡

I removed the battery and restarted the phone, it would then come up on the screen (failed to start, take phone to retailer) I searched on the net and found a button sequence on start up that finally got the phone to start up.

When I tried to do a restore from the card again. it would not see the mem card, I put the card in my pc and it would not show on that either, so it looks like it has toasted my 8 gig card :con?

I had done a restore about 6 months ago on my pc so tried that, atleast I have now got most of my contacts back on the phone.

But alas, the phone only lasts 12 hours on the new battery if I dont use it, as soon as I try taking a couple of photos or vids, it instantly comes up low battery and cuts off

2 things...

1. If your phone had a software issue, restoring the backup would restore the problem. I would have advised formatting both the internal memor and memory card and starting from scratch.

2. Sound to me like you either have a faulty battery or a faulty handset. As long as it has not been de-branded, it's under warranty. Nokia do a freepost repair service - check the Nokia website.

Hi Dez.... the restore I done was from a time that the phone was running ok, was from a backup I did in January.

I did buy a new battery, I got it off ebay, the auction said it was a geniune Nokia battery, but I am unsure, is there anyway of telling these days if they are genuine or not!

perhaps I should have got one from Nokia, my original battery must now be 18 months old, how long do they last?
