Nokia E71 Network Signals
Hi, I am assuming that you are in the UK?
Three, doesnt have its own GSM (2g) network, so relies on Orange (was o2) to roam onto once your out of its own 3g network coverage.
Hence, in the Network settings of the phone, they have disabled the GSM Only feature as every time you make a call on the roaming network it will cost them money.
The Unbranded versions of the phone has three options for network selection; Dual, UMTS, GSM.
If you debrand then there is every chance that you could invalidate any warranty you have with Three and if they detect that you are always using the 2g network they may penalise you, or terminate the contract or similar.
If you have recently purchased the phone, maybe a good idea to take it back under the 14 day return policy and try another network.
If thats the case, go to the centre of your house and do a manual network search and see what other 3g networks you can pick up. Although you cant use them the phone will see them which may narrow down your choice.

If it helps, the T-Mobile E71 allows you to decided to use 2G, 3G or both (as I imagine the other networks that offer the handset do?). There's nothing wrong with any of the 3G networks' performance, but if you frequent an area with poor coverage, the handset will constantly be trying to use the 3G radio.
Where I live I am fortunate to have a strong and fast 3G service, but where I work, I am not so lucky! 🙄
Has anyone successfully changed the firmware on the E71X? Thnks this is my first post and I did do a search.
yes, I have changed it from T-mob v 200 to Nokia v 210
I know little about Symbian. How did you do it? Did you unlock it first? Thanks
Also You mentioned that you changed it from T Mob, I thought the E71X was an ATT phone.
