E63-3 : The ultimate international 3G phone?

Hello,

I was skimming through the E63 spec sheet, and I was wondering something.

I'm from France, and I currently have the E63-2, which doesn't do 3G in Europe. It does in the US, where I'm actually expatriated (bought the handset here).

I might buy a E63-1 as soon as I get home, because I really love the handset.

I took a deeper look at the spec sheet:

Operating frequency

  • E63-1 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 900/2100
  • E63-2 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/1900
  • E63-3 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/2100
  • Offline mode

Would this mean that the Australian (it seems) E63-3 handset is the ultimate international version of it, that works with 3G no matter where? Or will I more likely get spotty 3G coverage wherever I go, since countries in Europe reused a lot of the 900 MHz infrastructure to speed up 3G infrastructure development? I might be mistaken for the US, but I think that most of their 3G network operates on the 1900 MHz band.

Does anybody tried such a "trick"? Does it work?

Thanks in advance!

Vincent.
