Hi all,
I recently got a 16gb i8510 and have been struggling with a problem where the phone will not recognise contacts stored in the phone when calls or sms messages are received.
After some testing, I've found that a contact is only recognised if the number is EXACTLY the same as what's against the contact. The problem is that numbers for incoming mobile calls are received differently to the numbers for incoming sms messages, which include the country code.
For example: I have a contact in the phone with the mobile number 0412 345 678.
When an incoming call is received, the number is displayed as 0412345678. The phone recognises the contact and displays the name.
When an sms is received, the number is displayed with the country code +61412345678. The phone does not recognise the contact and only displays the phone number.
I've tried the reverse of this with the contact including the country code. In this scenario, the contact is recognised when an sms is received but not when a call is received.
This happens with contacts synced over from outlook 2003 (also scrubbed any duplicates) as well as contacts created on the phone itself, so it doesn't seem to be sync/outlook problem.
I've also tried to update firmware via PC Studio 7, but the application tells me that the phone is up to date.
The only other mention of this problem that I could find was on this thread, but no fix is mentioned: http://samsungi8510.com/forum/post2475.html#p2475
Does anyone else have this issue with their phone? Has anyone come across a fix, or at least a workaround for this problem? Does the 8gb model have this issue as well?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm really hoping this can be fixed - this phone has a lot going for it, but having such a basic function not work is a real deal breaker.
Thanks!
Jon
