I have no idea about a memory card password, but can you just pull the card, put it into a microSD card reader (you can get them cheap) and copy the files to your PC? I would suspect the password thing is only something the Nokia cares about.

i can say only one thing to Steve Litchfield...your the best dude

My memory was completely full and was giving me the worst headache about full space. This cleared about 30mb of space and I didn't lose anything !

-Thank you so much

I'm desperate to regain some space on my 5800 as it's just eaten up the memory completely, somehow - I currently only have 3.9MB free in the C:\.

I'm afraid, though, that since I purchased the phone "unlocked" it might revert to whatever it was before I got it if I complete the hard reset as described here.

Should I be concerned? Has anyone else had issues with that?

Oh my god i love uu !! Thx for more freespace in my smartphone !! Thx !!!!

I freed up 52MB with this method. Still got my apps and themes intact, no "scanning memory>couldn't find..." (i.e. some programs not working) shown up, only before I made a restore of the backup. By completing the restore, I lost only 3MB 😃

I managed to recover 40MB(!) on my 5800 XpressMusic, but your comments welcome here.

I just went through the tutorial, "How to free up space on disk C on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic." Now I am doing the Restore as directed by the tutorial. It has been almost an hour and the phone still says, "Preparing to restore." How long should it take to do the restore? What is there to do if it never passes Preparing to restore?

Still waiting.

this worked amazingly well for me. memory was completely full all 88 MB or so. sorted it out no problem. tarr mush

Thanks dear you have give the great solution. My phone 5800 was out of memory. but now i have enough free space after applying your advise

Thanks
M Zahid

i am really frustrated to be doing this...

what was Nokia thinking giving the 5800 such a small amount of memory?

It really works!!! Thanks!!! Now, I've got a newly updated interface on my 5800 XP along with more free memory on C disk!

I followed the instructions , I did it all as it was explained, and I succeded to free up space.
After that I updated to software version V 40.0.005 and everything seemed to be ok, until I tried to install some apps. It keeps showing a message:
"Unable to start operation. Installer already in use."
I tried with different applications, it's still the same. I even repeated the 'hard reset' but I still can't install any applications.
Could you help me out with this if you know what the problem is?

Hello Everybody..Good News..!
I just tried Netquin's Mobile Guard App. It has inbuilt File Manager in it. Just set it to show all hidden and System files. Then You can access any file on your phone. Including Private , SYS folders in C Drive. Yes! Without hacking your phone 😊 😊 Even with Latest version of Firmware.

It became possible maybe because phone's OS is treating Mguard as protected system application and allowed access to Private folder.I have Netquin's Antivirus installed also. Its good.. 😊

Hi,

Just wanted to say thanks for a really useful article! I installed Y-Browser (now Xplore?), and managed to free about 3mb on my C: drive. However, I still have 70mb of 'other files' in my phone memory, and not quite sure how to free more.

I also noticed while looking on Y-browser that in addition to the C: drive and E: drive (memory card) I had a D: drive (with 51.2mb capacity all free, none used) AND a Z: drive with zero capacity / usage. Does anybody know what these are for?

Want to try freeing up more space on C: without resorting to the hard reset technique, so am going to try uninstalling the one remaining app I have on C: (Opera Mobile 10.1) and try uninstalling Ovi Maps and re-installing that on the card, as someone said this is the key to freeing up C: space?

Thanks again, if anyone can help with the D: / Z: drive mystery, please let me know!
