I have n95 locked to Three UK. I had firmware version 21 which was running fine but i need the Network Mode option which allowes me to select GSM or Dual mode. Some area has poor 3g reception and i want it to stay on GSM. Three firmware does not have this option.
After chaning the product code using Nemesis i updated using Generic UK firmware. Euro 1. The firmware update was sucessful. But now my reception is very poor. The places where i use to get two bars, i now get no network. This is happening on UMTS and GSM signal. I tried flashing second time sucessfully which made no difference.
Can anyone give me any advice or tweaks i can use to boost the reception. Or may be try a different firmware version that is v31.0.017 as i cant go back to the old one.
Before trying anything else it might be worth re-registering the phone with the network as follows:-
Menu > Tools > Settings > Phone > Network > Operator selection (set to Manual and let the phone search for all available networks. It should show your network and a few others. Select any network that is not yours and try to connect. It won't of course. Repeat this with every network and then finally select your own network. This will of course connect. Don't forget to go back and change Manual to Automatic)
You may be able to check which station your phone is connected to by typing in *#105# on the main screen and then press the green call key.
Failing that, you could use Nemisis to change the N95 product code to 0536062 which is the generic (unbranded) code and then use updater to change the firmware. You will of course lose all the 3 specific applications and screens plus you will possibly void your warranty.

I have tried manual network scan like you sugested but it made no difference.
By the way i no longer have Thee UK firmware. I have geneeric Nokia firmware 0536062. After debranding my There firmware V21 i started to get very poor reception. It is an issue with generic firmare v31.0.017.
I wish i can downgrade.
