Many people have noted that the Download! client now gives a message saying that it will be "temporarily unavailable" today, while at the same time the Ovi Store site currently asks for a name and password to access it. Could something be stirring behind the scenes at Ovi Store?

Download still working on my E75, hope they are not going to stagger the ovistore release.
Very interesting, bring it on..... Download on my E71 still loads without the message though.
i too had that notice yesterday, but today "Download" is working as normal, which came as a surprise, I too were hoping that OVI Store launch was pending.
Download works for me too after displaying the message, and indeed the Ovi Store "coming soon" page appears if you click cancel on the password message.
But the important point isn't whether these services are available or not, it's that Nokia is putting up messages which indicate that some heavy maintenance is going on behind the scenes. We don't know what that is for sure, but it does seem very likely that it has some connection to Ovi Store's launch.
i tried download last night worked fine i was surprized
(that was around 12am this morning UK time...7pm caribbean)
I think they might be actually late and a lot. On forum nokia discussion boards some nokia people are referring that it is "Alpha" version and it seems that actual store team is not answering to any feedback or questions sent through their support channel and discussion boards. They are getting now really bad rep among developers because of that.
I tried Download!, It's working but all applications disappeared. there are only 2 folders themes and ringtone (in french "graphique" and "sonnerie"😉. And sometimes when i try to update, i got some errors.
If it isn't 100% ready then a delay would be better than a botched launch. You only get one chance to make a first impression etc.
The only people who get annoyed by delays are technology enthusiasts like us, whereas a botched launch annoys everyone who tries a product.
Umm, interesting. Should we expect Nokia will just rename the current Download! client as Nokia Ovi Store mobile client? It might make sense, as they've been updating the current client recently.
However, until now the changes have been quite modest. The client is so poor at the moment compared to App Store on iPhone or iPod touch. There's no marketing appeal, and the UI is almost just a list of names of titles. Let's hope this is not the real deal yet.
The Download! client will not be renamed and that way "become" Ovi Store. The Ovi Store screenshots, etc., shows it bears no resemblance whatsoever to the Download! app.
I'm pretty certain that the Ovi Store client will be distributed via Download!, though (when available, and for supported devices), before it is preinstalled on the devices.
Not long now I guess. Though it could still be a week.
Download is not replaced as such, but, in some phone, you will be pushed Ovi Store from Download (as I understand it). i.e. open Dowload! and asked to download and and install Ovi Store.
Ovi Store has been removed from Google's search results too (I think it used to be there).
hi to all. I was reading a newsletter from nokia on the coming n97. I read that the n97 will have facebook application already installed. Does any 1 think that facebook app will be available through ovi store? And thats why it hasnt been released yet for symbian phones? And i hope that ngage will remain alive and separate...(even though nokia said it will remain separate from ovi i dont feel like beleiving them lol)
Could something be stirring behind the scenes at Ovi Store?
