I just received an email from my credit card company about "unusual activity" on my card--a charge from Brightpoint LP NA in an amount that nearly matches my pre-order price from Nokia for my N97.
It turns out that Nokia contracted with Brightpoint in 2001 for distribution services in North America.
The Nokia preorder site had forecast a July '09 delivery.
Yesterday however multiple techno-blogs had a story that the US was going to be receiving the N97 on June 2nd.
I'm starting to get those tingly sensations!!! 😊
I just want a UK date dagnammit!
Follow-up...
While surfing the net last night for news about the N97 I found a web blog where someone had talked to the pre-order site over the phone.
They said that what was going to happen is that they would first do a charge to your account and then within two days refund it--I suppose to make sure that your credit is good.
Then they would not charge your account until it ships.
Sounds like TEASING to me.

Same here. I've heard rumours that it's going to ship on 23rd June.
[EDIT] And it's available on pre-order on the Nokia UK site now at 499
My credit card company reported receiving multiple charges (or authorizations) from Brightpoint each one week apart. It so happened that they caught me when I was otherwise occupied and I ended up authorizing them to reissue my cards.
So, for all practical purposes my pre-order will not go through. No regrets though, since I saw Amazon is carrying the N97 (pre-order) for $604! See:

It gets worse... play.com has a 27th June release date! :frown:
I find it hard to fathom that the UK has a much later release date than virtually anywhere. Release it tomorrow and I'll buy it!
