I have E71 and Fring, which I use centrally for Skype; everything works fine, but when I want to shut down the wifi connection, it seems impossible: the main screen tells me a wifi locked connection is still there with the presence of the two little pictograms, one for the wifi connection, one for the locked character. When I go to the connection panel: confirmation: the wifi seems to work; if I try to put it off, it does and in the following second switches on again. To succeed putting off the wifi, i have to shut down the telephone! What a drag; who knows a workaround?
Conversely, if i search a wifi connection, find it, go surfing for example on google, it works fine; when i decide to resume, the wifi shuts off normally, and the connections signs on the screen have gone. Perfectly normal, which tends to prove something is wrong with the relation Fring-E71...

I also own a n95 and nothing such happens with it, i mean with shutting down fring and the related wifi connection: everything shuts down fine: fring and the wifi. Back to my e71, the user manual shows another way to shut down wifi: press home 3 seconds: appears on the left of screen all open programmes: i see fring: manual says to use backspace button to shut down: well, it does not shut down. Seems glued ON. i believe this is a bug, happening home with my own wifi router (dlink)
I went yesterday to fnac (french electronics distributor); they have a free wifi in shop (not security locked); would you believe it: no problems in shutting down their wifi connection on my e71.
Who knows an explanation? And a cure?
I don't know the straight answer , maybe a workaround helps :
1. Fring needs a internet-conection . So when Fring is not closed , it keeps searching for a connection , GPRS , 3G , WiFi .
In Fring settings you can make your preferred choices .
2. The settings of your Phone : Menu > Instuments > Settings > Connectivity > WLAN > Show availability > 1.yes / 2.never .

Nice try, but did not work; i had already tried out your recommendation; but I found another simplissimo trick: when on the skype display with all your contacts on screen, and probably one highlighted (probably skype phone control), just hit options/quit! It disconnects fring, wifi, and main view wifiicon plus locked sign. Incredibly simple. Done. And now your battery wont drain out.
On another phone, htctouch 3g, i had a similar problem of things pumping out the battery without you knowing some functions did work in your back, such as weather forecasts refreshed every x minutes. Totally unnecessary, apart for the operator who greedily pinches your pennies. The net gives the answer: upload ""nodata"of "winmo@modaco" and put out the unnecessary candles. And become a uncomplexed Harpagon of Moli�re.
