CellPhoneSoft, the UIQ software experts, are transitioning across to S60 and one of their first utilities has just arrived: Speedy Go! This claims to speed up all S60 3rd Edition and 5th Edition smartphones by "display acceleration and overall speed boost". Hmm.... Anyone brave enough to try this on an S60 device and report back in the comments?

Just downloaded the trial, and about to test it on N95-1, N95-2, and N82. Will post my findings here.
Testing the trial on my E71. After what it calls a speed test, it reports my phone's speed to be 306 and an accelerated speed of 422. I'm curious if thats relative to clock speed of the cpu because 306 mhz sounds about right for the E71 cpu. If accelerated means overclocked and its reporting that I can overclock to 422 mhz, this may present certain possible issues such as decreased battery life, over heating, and reduced stability. I'll check the documentation to see if there is anything about this before I activate it.
Caution.! It appears to have disabled my WiFi for some reason. had to upload to ovi with data connection.

Ok, tested on N95-2 first.
This is the result of the speed test before activating Accelerator. 257

The with Accelerator switched on.

Then speed test with Accelerator on. 249

It dont work, it makes your device slower.
Apparently my 5800 would receive a boost of 20. 20 what, I do not know but I can tell you that it makes no difference to operating speed of the handset.
This takes my vote for potentially the most useless bit of software I've ever installed.
Uninstalled it. No point further testing it.
Hmm Ive tested it on my N85 Works like a charm and gives my cell a boost of +/-50 Current speed was 254 & with speedy running it was 302 s nice!... Im not complaining Going to test it for a day or two then Ill report back 😊
Here are my test result's :-
N95 Off 357
On 379
N95 8GB Off 366
On 360
5800 Off 297
On 294
So except for N95 speed's are slower.
Here are my test results on my Nokia 5800XM:
OFF: 220
ON: 212
Therefore faster if left off, and "off the phone" it will go!
N82:
Normal phone speed: 324
With speedy on: 330
I've tested on both E71 and E75. Both have increased in cpu speed. Most noticeable is photo browser with more that 1000 pictures but not coming close to N95 8Gb. However, during call, volume and reception seem to drop. Even on video call, the video and voice occasionally drop! Very rarely i encounter this with nokia phone, of which i can't be sure if it is due to the service provider problem.
Some of those who reported above surely did not understand at all how to interpret the results of speed testing in Speedy Go. You do not need to do the test twice (once without and once with acceleration). The speed test itself does that for you, independently on your current acceleration setting. In the end of a single test the last two speed values on the screen are interesting. The Phone speed is the speed without acceleration, and the Speedy speed is the added speed when acceleration is on.
So, some people above compared the same value (the Speedy speed) in several test rounds, therefore reported the variance of the accelerated speed, instead of comparing the accelerated one to the non-accelerated. Repeat: the last two values on screen must be compared, and you don't need to switch acceleration on and off while testing!
I did several test rounds on my E51. The Phone speed varied between 411 and 435. The Speedy speed was consistently greater, between 478 and 502. That means acceleration works! Indeed I can notice that switching between applications is faster. Also browsing large lists looks faster. I keep on seeing where else it is good, but it seems to be a very useful program!!

real world 'feel' - definitely snappier in transition between apps and loading the gallery.
usually I'm very wary of potential snake oil stuff but as it was free to try I can report on mine that it definitely improves it.
Perhaps it only has a noticeable effect on machines with 3D acceleration chips? (N95 and e90 both have.. what others? )
So... the only way of measuring any speed improvement is to use the supplied "speed test" utility? And what exactly are the numbers measuring? How do we know it isn't just displaying an arbitrary number that happens to be bigger when "acceleration" is turned on?
It is hard not to be suspicious when they give no information whatsoever about what is it meant to be doing.
You could try Jbenchmark to test whether there really is an improvment and what's more interesting is to see what areas. There is a little bit of work though as you need to register to DL.

Oh, one more thing make sure you tick all the boxes in each tab. There are 100's of tests...
I am sorry for the sake of speeding up the E90 . The test says : 5 points up , from 193 to 198 . Whatever the points might mean , the Test itself is surprising Freaky !
Almost a Coaster . I'll keep the app just for the fun of Test .
Advice : just close all your applications , and especially JBakTaskman . Because JBak keeps on running all the apps , the Test is running through . Result : Phone is freezing and rebooting . This is disappointing , when you want scorepoints .
😊 Regards jApi NL
Just reinstalled the update trial -1.50 - on my E90 . Closed all applications and let the test run .
First test stopped after phase 5 (of 6) . A message popped up saying : test failed , Error 2.... Not sure , think it was 2605
Second test stopped in phase 2 (of 6) . Test failed , Error 1605 .
Then I rebooted the phone for 3rd test . Now it was completed .
The former version indicated 193 points for phone and 198 for Speedy (see post above) . This version is giving the Phone 280 points and Speedy 305 points . So far so good .
As I would be delighted to speed up E90's Gallery , with over 7200 pictures , I did a prove of the pudding .
Opening Gallery by default : + 2 minutes . With Speedy Go : + 2 minutes . Sorry , but I am still not impressed .
The GUI of the test has kept it's surprising joy .
Thanks for all your effort .
😊 Regards jApi NL
Thank you for you reply . The E90 has a slow Gallery by default anyway . Over 100 pics or so it is going to slow down ...
Speedy Go is on now , also for coming days .
😊 Regards jApi NL
