... a warning to prospective purchasers - the 8910 from Nokia does NOT have Route 66 pre-installed and Orange have "been at" the firmware on the phone 😞

Thats odd - Its was installed on the handset I tried today, and Orange have huge adverts up saying "free sat nav on selected handsets" with a huge pic of the Omnia Hd on it! I also checked with the salesman and its free with any tariff over 40!?

what did you think of it?

The version I have sitting in front of me, which has firmware I8910BVIE2, certainly doesn't have ANY of the navigation stuff included on the i8510 (Innov8) handset loaded, nor does it have many other applications which have been shown as being on the 8910.

That's a real pity, as I think the handset itself is very nice indeed; and once I get a SIM free version, I can see this becoming my main phone.

Has anyone used Copilot Live 7?! I am really interested to see it on the Omnia HD. HDomnia has a write up on it, looks promising - but at a price. Free is always best of course. Send me a PM if you have this installed on your omnia i8910 I really want to learn more about it

I wanna look at copilot too,

But yeah guys if you on orangeworld you can download orange maps which is free. Pretty good but i doubt its as good as route 66

Looking at the CoPilot website it appears that it's only available for the Old Windows Mobile powered Omnia and not the Omnia HD.

I mailed Alk in January to ask if they had plans to support Symbian v5 devices and they said than that they had no current plans and it looks like that's still the situation.

Pity.

As for Route 66 have any Omnia HDs been confirmed as shipping with Route 66 anywhere else in the world ?

CoPilot is good, I have been using it on my N95, however it is let down by not having A-GPS support, so takes forever to lock on.

You could also take a look at Sygic McGuider, as the latest version seems to work pretty well, and locks almost instantly.

Hey i think i have some answers for u
i have an i8910 and have descoverd a few things

1. orange has removed route 66 from the phone

2. orange has orange maps which is quite good and free when on a 30 a month contract for 24 months or higher

3. Route 66 is available for download and install for free from the samsung website http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/download/supportDown.do?group=&type=&subtype=&model_nm=GT-I8910&disp_nm=I8910%20HD&language=&cate_type=all&dType=D&mType=SW&vType=&prd_ia_cd=01011700&model_cd=&menu=download
just click on software and download the SamsungLBS.zip file and follow the included PDF instrutions

4. a good alternative (also free) is google maps
