Opera browser won't show motion?

5 replies · 2,388 views · Started 23 May 2009

Hi,

From time-to-time, my E71 freezes, and I have to take the battery out to re-boot. I'm working through the process of isolating WHICH software is causing it.

It SEEMS to be the built in browser, so I'd like to use Opera for a while instead.

I've downloaded it, and it works great, EXCEPT that it won't show moving images the way the built in browser does.

For example, our weather bureau has a rain radar service, (http://www.bom.gov.au/products/national_radar_sat.loop.shtml) which plays a 'loop' of the last 40 mins of rainfall.

It works fine on the built in browser, just like on a PC.

HOWEVER, in Opera, you only get ONE image, which remains stationary on the screen? :con?

I've looked in 'settings' to see if there is anything in there, but there doesn't seem to be.

Does anyone know if it CAN work?

I hope so, because other than that, Opera is a really cool app that is fast and VERY intuitive.

Thanks for any advice about this!

Cheers,

Jerry

Thanks for getting back to me!

I didn't know that you could use Opera on a phone? I thught it had to be Opera Mini.

Anyway...

I looked in Menu > Tools > Help > About.

It says: Opera Mini

v. 4.2.13221

Does that help?

Thanks,

Jerry

Opera support (including discussion boards): http://www.opera.com/support/

Anyhow, as Opera Mini doesn't connect you to the target web site directly, but to Opera's proxy service, where they do the content downloading and re-rendering for Opera Mini, the behaviour is probably more of a feature than a bug.

Opera Mini is a nice , fast browswer . The Websites you are visiting are handled through Opera servers , which are compressing data to a small load ( i.e. kB's instead of MB's ) .
This comes of course with disavantages : especially the moving content like Flash , Gif and movies are not displayed .
For this content , whether Opera redirects you , or you have to open the build in "Web" browser manually .
Freezing Phone can be due to shortage of RAM-memory . You can check this thread : http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/84082/
Also works for E71
