Moving Nokia N85 SMS & Mailboxes from Phone to Card Memory

When I setup my phone I made the mistake of copying in my old SMS text messages and setting up all my email mailboxes straight away, and only later discovered it was using the phone memory (and therefore taking up the limited space).

I tried switching the setting to use the memory card instead and all my messages vanished (as of course they were not present on the memory card). A number of text messages arrived whilst I was trying this so ended up in my Inbox on the memory card instead. I then had to give in and swap back to the phone memory so I could see my previous SMS and mailboxes again.

Does anyone know if there is a way I can copy my SMS text messages from the phone memory to the memory card please?

I can see there are folders called private on my Nokia N85 but I cannot access them with any application - I've tried the default File Manager, Y-Browser, MobyExplorer, X-plore, ActiveFile, SExplorer, FExplorer, etc. (all set to read hidden files) and the MobiMB Mobile Media Browser, all with no luck at being able to view the contents of the private directories. I've also heard mention of a Mail folder in System on some phones but I do not appear to have that.

Does anyone know of a solution please?

before you try this .. backup your phone to your pc..

OK .. now we can try a thing ..

Messaging / Options / Settings / Other / Memory in use .. Phone memory / Memory card

if its Phone Memory and you have not used Memory Card before .. switching will open a "copy all messages" to Memory card option.

This is a once only option "to get this option again you need to do a hard reset.."

Copying the messages from phone to card will overwrite messages on the card. (hence the reason for the backup)

Try that .. see how it goes .. no promises

You can certainly transfer the SMS and MMS to your PC/laptop I would think you can restore them to your Memory card.

I will go and try it and let you know.
