Hi, I recently got a Nokia 5800. I want to convert a few .avi videos to playback on the phone, what is the best way to do this?. I saw a method of using SUPER and some settings, but this was dated a while ago. Can anyone recommend a program/method to convert videos for the 5800?
Thanks
Xvid 4PSP work's great. This version is already setup for 5800. 😊

What OS is your computer running?
I have Vista, XP and Windows 7 RC.

So whats the best video player to use then? the standard one that comes with 5800?
RealPlayer is good, it's made by a reputable company and has been on Symbian phones from the beginning.
Has anyone tried using SUPER to make videos for the 5800 yet?
I'm about to experiment at this with my copy of Naked Gun 33 1/3, because I want to get the settings right for when I get my N97 which has the same screen resolution and OS as the 5800, which is why I'm asking here 😊
For reference, I made a video of the film for my N95 which came out at 295Mb using the following settings:
MP4
H.264/AVC
AAC
320:240 resolution
4:3 aspect radio
25 fps
384 kbps video bitrate
44100 sampling frequency
2 channels
128 kbps audio bitrate
I know the video resolution would work best at 640x360 (16:9 aspect ratio) for the 5800/N97 so the video would be bigger.

in SUPER for 5800 i use these settings:
output conteiner: MP4 Output video codecs: MPEG-4 output audio codec: AACLC
Then i choose screen resolution(640x360) and aspect (16:9) and frames 25
Thanks striker13. I've give those settings a go now and see how it does.
OK, I've tried the SUPER settings that were recommended on a 1 minute clip of the Transformers film (I wasn't gonna hang around and do the whole thing). The file size came out at 3.8Mb which means if I did the whole film it'd be roughly 520Mb (137 minutes).
I tried Xvid4PSP as well, and the quality was outstanding but a whole film would be roughly 3.5Gb!!!!
What file sizes do you guys try to aim for? Is there a way of getting the filesize just where you want it (Like you can with AutoGK)? I'm hoping I can get films to be roughly 1Gb each, so that I'm not compromising on space and not too much on quality.
[EDIT] Rightyo, it took a while but I figured out how to do it with Xvid4PSP. Click the E button (Edit) next to your video encoding option and choose either 2-Pass Size or 3-Pass Size from the encoding mode menu. You can then set a size for your video in Megabytes (Mb).
I'd taken the liberty of preparing a couple of screensnaps so I could show you all the difference in the results between Xvid4PSP's highest video settings and my own custom settings... but then I decided against it because I felt there might be legal ramifications since I was dealing with a copyrighted film.
Suffice as to say, comparing the two there is a subtle difference in quality, but I think my 1Gb video is more than acceptable, especially given that it's less than a third of the size of the highest quality one.
