Unlimited data contracts.......

Hi Guys,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, if not feel free to move it.

I have come to the end of my Orange contract which was Dolphin 35, but over the last 18 months due to various disputes and loyalty discounts etc has morphed into:
600 mins
Unlimited Texts
15 MMS
Insurance

If I stayed within my minutes (which I usually did) my bill was about 30 a month give or take.

Now you might have noticed that there is no mention of GPRS or WAP in that bundle. The reason being was that I asked them to remove it as it was the only way of stopping them from charging me for useage I hadn't used.
Part of the bundle back then was internet access, capped at 4Mb per month and according to Orange I'd exceed that each month, even though I'd only ever use it in the pub or to google something every now and again. I certainly wasn't a power user.
Now here we are 18 months on and everytime I speak to orange about upgrading, I get a different operator/sales person who contradicts what the previous person said. All I want is the same bundle as I have at present, but have a clear monthly cost for unlimited browsing.
They keep steering me to a 5 per month package for 500Mb but this seems to be restricted to after 19:00hrs until 07:00hrs and weekends, although this depends on who you speak to.

My question is this....... what sort of deals do you guys have? At present, If I were to use Nokia Maps for say a 20 mile journey, check a few football scores, sync with Ovi, download the odd app and google a random word, it would cost me about 1,000,000 according to Orange.
I don't mind paying but the service needs to be reasonable and accountable.
Am I staring down the barrel of ending my 10 relationship with Orange do you think?

Thanks for reading all of that 😃 I look forward to your input

My advice would be to apply for your free unlock code, then you can use your existing phone on another network.

I am on O2 Simplicity, paying 19.50 per month (30 day rolling contract).
600 mins, 1200 texts / 300 MMS (mix n match, 1x MMS = 4x SMS), plus a free 'unlimited Web' bolt-on (200MB fair usage) and 'unlimited' O2 to O2 voice calls.

If you prefer a 12 month contract, you get 33% more minutes and texts for the same price.

You don't get a free handset, as Simplicity is SIM -ONLY, but it's an excellent deal. You can also port your old phone number to O2.

THAT Dez is an excellent bit of advice. I never even considered to look at it as "....it's my phone now so unlock it and use it on a better network" Brilliant, thank you

its probably a good idea to actually call their customer service once in a while and ask if they got new talkplans etc. the new version of the dolphin you are talking about is dolphin35 600mins ultd txts + 500mb gprs for 30. but when you speak to their disconnectiosn dept they will give it at 20/month for 18 months. last summer they had promo where they giving unlimited gprs with dophin plans for free. you just had to ask.... i asked. ive hit 825mb of gprs one and got no charge. and the 3g signal is pretty damn good where i am too.

yes, thats right, 500mb free. oh and the 4mb thing was a bundle from years ago. i think now just switching on the phone uses 4mb on an n95!!! (ok not quite but you get what i mean).

I concur with dez_borders. O2's Simplicity is a great tariff and made better by the fact you're not tied down to a long contract. I strongly considered Simplicity myself but I'm on an old PAYG tariff with O2 that's very hard to beat, so I'm sticking with that for as long as I can 😊
