I have the U.S version of the 5800 and I am having problems with some of my installed apps suddenly disappearing from my phone. OK, maybe not disapperaing completely but the icons show up in white with a red mark on the lower right hand side. If I click on the "broken" icon, the phone does not respond. It seems like the icon no longer is associated with the app. If I reinstall the app, I get a message that it is already installed and do I want to overwrite the program. It always reinstalls without issue but will eventually disappear again.
This has happened on apps I downloaded from various forums (apps like google maps, personal best sports trainer, photoflow) AND it has happened with apps downloaded from the offical OVI site (Flashlight, Worldmate, Journey).
Any ideas? I am running firmware V.20.
This reaction is about S60 v 3 , but S60 v 5 should not be very different :
The Icons you mention have the looks like being in Application Manager .
In Apps Manager press Options to see what you you can do .
From Apps Manager it's impossible to launch the Apps .
When this is the case , press Menu to see what happens .

Yes, you are correct. The icons look exactly as they do in App manager. If I go into App manager and double click on the program, it tells me that it is installed, the version and where it is stored. I can even check the certificates here and everything seems fine.
If I click on options, I can either view details (which is the same as double clicking), unistall, view log (which shows me all of the apps I've installed or uninstalled), help or exit. None of the programs that were affected in the last run of issues shows up in the log as having been removed or changed since the install so the phone thinks they are there and running fine. Unfortunately, under the apps tab on the phone, some of the programs no longer work until I reinstall them.
It seems like the icon (shortcut) somehow got disassociated with the program. Kind of like a computer icon that is not pointing to any specifc program anymore.
Hmm....
it sounds to me like you are installing apps to the memory card, rather than phone memory. when you install an app, does it pop up a selection of PHONE or MEMORY card? perhaps you are removing the memory card to load music, or maybe there is a glitch and the memory card is not being read properly, etc. something along those lines.
i noticed when i install an app from ovi store, it automatically puts it on memory card without asking me if thats OK.
Yes, I am purposely putting the app on the memory card rather than the phone memory. Is that Bad? I would think this would be Ok considering the very limited space the phone has without the SD card. I am not removing the card from the phone so it shouldn't be an issue with that.
With regards to the OVI store, I remember somewhere during the setup of the OVI App where you can tell the the program where to install the files by default. I chose the memory card as the default location.
I guess I wil try loading some of the apps that are constantly deleting themselves onto the phone memeory next time to see if that helps. I am hoping it is not a defective SD card as I would rather not spend money buying another 16gb card. I still have the 8gb card that came with it but then I won't have enough room for my music!
I still don't understand the point of apps that are unstalling themselves , like you call it .
When these are JAVA applications , I would try MIDletRestorer from Nokia . ( I installed it allready a year ago , when it was on Download ! , but now I cannot find it : maybe on Ovi ? Anyway it is a .sis file) . This App restores the Icons of JAVA apps .
Otherwise : your Phone will be under guarantee , so what about visiting a NSP - Nokia Service Point ?
BTW Installing apps on MemoryCard (E😊 is adviced , to save (C😊 Device memory . Just installing a few apps on C: might be a good idea to see if the MemoryCard is the reason .

Not bad or wrong at all!
In fact the best way to keep internal memory free as much as possible is to install as many apps as possible on your memory card.
