For all those bemoaning the lack of a Facebook client for S60, the void has now been filled with an official Facebook application for S60 5th Edition, now live in the Ovi Store. Implemented as a Web Runtime widget, it's not the speediest thing in the world, but hey, it's official and it's here and it's free. Screenshots and comments below.

Read on in the full article.

No love for the vast majority of Symbian phones in the world???? where's the 3rd edition love?

while this is great news, how did you find this in the app store? lets say i DIDNT have access to AAS site. when i go to ovi store and click RECENT, the same crap shows up as always, like the star trek ringtone, etc. and there is facebook widget mixed in with everything, its not even at the top!

To be fair to Nokia, the Ovi Store content does seem to be evolving - remember it's only been a week since it opened.... plenty of rough edges still to smooth out. I found the app by sheer All About Symbian doggedness and determination! 8-)

Looks like it may be appearing / disappearing at the moment. Patience if you don't find it first time!

And Steve seems to have a six sense for these kind of things.

Interesting to see Nokia Messaging and Mail for Exchange are also now available in the Store.

Easy find for me.

It's comes on the first page if I you choose "Newest - oldest" on Applications. Also on first page if I choose "Suggested to me" from Social Networks.

Wouldn't supprise me if it was pretty quickly on the first page with "Most popular" also.

I can still download the Facebook_.wiz on my N95 NAM. Not that it will install... ...I have even managed to save it to a memory card to fiddle with it, however still no luck.

Strangely, on my N95 NAM, I have no content under any header, yet if I search, applications (both those compatible and not compatible) are returned.

Still a bit flakey!!

this might sound stupid but how do you install the applications from OVI to your memory card instead of memory card?

Nevermind the 3rd edition... where's the i8910 love? The app is signed for Nokia phones only!

@justmeinit: to get it from the i8910: browse the web interface of the Ovi store (store.ovi.com), login, and use the mobile link Steve provided to download it. It gives me certificate error, so you'll need to apply the partial hack in order to install it (something I haven't gotten around doing yet).

Is there any way to remove the security warning dialog every time the application start?

it's not fair that there is no s60v3 app, hopefully one is in development and will be released soon.
I was just wondering, is there a chat function in the app???

Fireup the ovi store application. Once it is loaded, go to Options - Account - Settings.
Then choose Installation preferences.

Here you can set wehre stuff needs to be installed

Hey...
can anyone find / tell me how to change the connection its using?
I set a connection but can't find now how to change it!!
Also, is there any way to stop it asking me for permission every time it starts?
I checked up the app manager and there are no additional settings there!

It's all right so far... slow, but better than nothing!
Just wish there were some "options" where i could change settings and what not!

It's a pity Nokia haven't had the foresight to allow the Ovi store, and the Facebook application, to install on non-Nokia S6o / Symbian Foundation devices!

ARGHHHHHH

It's pretty good, main thing i like is the ability to upload photos directly from my 5800 however thats a little screwed as you cant create a new album first.

Unless I've missed it...

Can you upload the WGZ Widget so i can try to install it on my N85?

@stuclark

Given that ovi IS nokia i entirely understand why they wont allow ovi store to work on non nokia phones

anyone got past the certificate error yet or know a workaround???

anyone having issues installing this app. my phone says that the install has completed but i have no icon to launch it. im using a nam version of the the 5800 with the latest nam firmware

RE: FB chat on S60v3, i just use Palringo for that... :P

Nokia is still releasing new phones without touch screens like the E75 based on S60 3rd ... But y isnt there an official FaceBook app fo S60V3 yet !!!!
Being a E71 user, i'm a bit dissapointed about it :S

Facebook, and Accuweather are both now missing from Ovi Store. I imagine, they have been removed, to be fixed?

Nokia had better eventually (sooner than later!) publish a Facebook Symbian S60 v3 client! After all, there is a much larger installed base of v3 users. Hell, Nokia just sold me a N86 8MP phone--supposedly its most advanced camera phone and definitely a new model--which is based on v3. If it is unable to do a v3 client then it had better do a s/w update for v3 phones that enables compatibility with v5 software packages.

Can anybody tell me why on earth did the not create a facebook app for s60 3rd edition!!!!??? Since there less 5th edition mobiles, its only fair to the customer
