Picsel view limitations

While waiting for my Nokia N97, I've been busy making iPhone owners envious by having my Nokia 9300 outperform their iPhones.

While watching them try to use the haptic touch and display glide positioning to zoom in/out and pan their pictures, I casually ask them how big of an image their iPhone can work with.

Then I bring up Picsel Viewer and load an old high-resolution monitor calibration graphic and zoom in and out effortlessly around the image.

After seeing www.gigapixelphotography.com and how far in you can zoom, I was interested in seeing how big an image would work with Picsel viewer, so I downloaded some Houston floodplain maps (~1.2 MB).

Turns out that the application can't handle more than about a 100X Zoom. It blurs the content beyond that even if the image information is there.

How disappointing! It still outperforms the iPhone, though.

It's fun to make iPhone owners feel inferior....just wait til the N97 gets here!
