I hope I post in the right place, since I am using a N95.
I tried to install Nokia Software Updater and got a error code 1714, saying it could not remove the old version, I couldn't install the updater.
I had tried all the following but still not able to install the software:
- I have removed all the Nokia applications from my system, even use a third party remover to make sure all hidden applications are removed;
- Disable my Window XP default firewall, and AVG anti-virus software;
- Did a registry clean up after removed all Nokia applications, and rebooted my system;
- Called Nokia help line, they advised me to send my phone to them, which I will not do, since I have debranded my phone and I need to use it everyday.
My system: Windows XP + SP2, AVG anti-virus, Windows default Firewall
Any ideas?
Thanks.
You seem to have tried all the right things, but without success.
I am glad you decided not to send the handset to Nokia as de-branded handsets are outside of warranty conditions.
2 further options come to mind:-
1. Take your handset to a Carphone Warehouse shop and pay them 10 to flash the handset to the latest FW - usually done in under an hour.
2. Format your PC hard drive and re-install windows (or if your manufacturer has a factory restore image, use that), then re-install NSU.
You could try running Nokia PC Suite Cleaner:-

thanks for your advices, but do a clean install of the windows is the last thing I want to do.
And I am in New Zealand, we don't have Carphone Warehouse, and the nearest place that does that is 8 hrs drive/ 1 hr fly.

I tried that but it didn't work. I am going to install a clean Windows tonight, but thanks anyway.
Maybe Nokia should write a Nokia Software Updater Cleaner, lol~

It's probably too late and you have formatted your hard drive?
I use VMware Workstation, with an XP Virtual Machine, because NSU and PHOENIX are much more stable with XP O/S.
Using VMware Workstation is actually a brilliant idea, I should have thought about earlier lol~ Thanks

VMware Workstation fully supports USB (Microsoft's VPC doesn't) and I can confirm I successfully flashed my 5800XM using Phoenix 2009 via a VMware XP VM last week.
Thanks I have got my device flashed:icon14:
