De-Cluttering my Active Standby

Okay, I've had my E71 for six months and I like it a lot.

But something is annoying me and I can't see a way to solve it.

I would like an uncluttered Active Standby page where I can launch applications with one push of the D-pad but that doesn't show the pop-up window for missed calls, SMS, MMS, that sort of thing, instead I like and want to use the bubble notifications at the bottom of the screen.

If I use the Active Standby with nothing showing other than the notifications, I lose my D-pad quick launch functionality. If I disable the Active Standby I have those pop up windows.

Is there a decent compromise?

I've tried Handy Shell and whilst it's full of functionality, I really, really didn't like how it added more screens and information to the Active Standby, kept the original Active Standby, and was even harder to read! 😎
